NebraSSka truck
I was washing my truck the other day and was fussing over a tiny mark on my front bumper. Then I looked down and saw this damn malarchy! The black material in the recessed areas of the silver front ducts is flaking off. Has anyone else had this issue? What have others done to fix this? I can think of a half a dozen crappy fixes, but was thinking of taking them out and painting the edges black. Looks like it is just a $hitty decal. I'm assuming these is not a replacement decal for this, unless you purchase the entire duct from the dealer. Not a big deal i guess, but bothers me nonetheless. ***UPDATE*** I'm still looking to fix my peeling duct issue... Upon searching GMpartsdirect.com I thought I found the needed OEM duct trim to fix the issue. I ordered GM part number 15197886 ("Tape") shown on the below mentioned diagram. What I recieved was a $15 dollar rectangle piece of 3M transparent tape??? Kinda pissed me off because the diagram shows this as the trim around the duct. Has anyone found the correct part to fix this issue? What exactly does the clear peice of tape supposed to do? Any help would be much appreciated. If all else fails, I guess I will just paint the duct surrounds. Edited March 1, 2009 by NebraSSka truck (see edit history)

Hankg42
I painted black where the tape peeled off. I should really peel all of it off, and paint the WHOLE edge black.

diggerdan11
yeah lots of people have had this problem. I did and i fixed it. Some people taped them off and painted them. I used electrical tape and taped them and it looks good the other one is starting to peel so i need to do that one too

GetWithIt
Yep, just a common problem on the vents. Mine bothered me too, but I'm just gonna wait until spring and take them out and paint them anyway................

F1SSS
Mines the same way. Thinking of a different color, victory red on the ducts and grille maybe.
Rays B4U
It is just tape on the lip and you can't buy just the tape, you have to buy the whole dang duct. My factory ducts did it several years ago and were replaced on warranty. My chrome ducts I just painted the lip black.
Fireman31
I have this problem on my drivers side duct, thankfully the area that is peeling still had the flake attached, so I crazy glued it back on. I am going to un-tape and paint both edges black in the spring......
