zanis520 Posted December 21, 2008 Report Posted December 21, 2008 http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/article2058199.ece Stunned police officers found eight mangy moggies protecting the tiny lad. They snuggled up to keep him warm during freezing nights — which would otherwise have killed him, medics believe. He was seen eating scraps foraged by the animals while they licked him. And they HISSED when a female cop approached the boy in Misiones, Argentina. The boy — whose ordeal was similar to wild child Mowgli’s in Disney film The Jungle Book — was rushed to hospital. But doctors believe he was kept alive by the caring creatures. Policewoman Alicia Lorena Lindgvist discovered the child by a canal in the Christ King district on Wednesday. She said yesterday: “I was walking and noticed a gang of cats sitting very close together. “It is unusual to see so many like that so I went for a closer look and that’s where I saw him. “The boy was lying at the bottom of a gutter. “There were all these cats on top of him, licking him because he was really dirty. “When I walked over they became really protective and spat at me. They were keeping the boy warm while he slept.” Alicia said she noticed scraps of food by the tot. She added: “I picked him up and took him to the nearest police station. “He was still really dirty and he was then taken to the hospital. The doctor who examined him said he should have perished in the cold. “The cats knew he was fragile and needed protecting.” Police have tracked the boy’s father — who told officers he is homeless and admitted he lost the lad for several days while collecting cardboard to sell. var RStag = ""; try{ RStag = segQS; } catch(e){ RStag = ""; } document.write(''); He told officers cats had always been protective of his son. Last night cat behaviour experts explained how the boy could have survived. A spokesman for Thames Valley Animal Welfare, which deals with feral cats and strays in Berkshire, said: “They would have viewed the baby like a big hot water bottle. “Cats will cuddle up to anything to keep warm, even dogs.” He added: “In our experience of cat colonies, when a mother has a litter, all the other cats will go and fetch food. The baby could have been feeding off the scraps they brought. “Cats in Argentina stay in large packs to survive — much more than cats over here.” Quote
Black2003SS Posted December 21, 2008 Report Posted December 21, 2008 Huh...imagine that. My only question is, isnt The Sun the UK equivalent to our National Enquirer? You know, the mags that get pics of former alien presidents, have interviewed Jesus Christ through an image on some tree bark and found a WWII B17 Bomber on the moon? I am not saying this story isnt scientifically or physically possible, but just raising the question about the source, thats all. Quote
Turbocoop Posted December 21, 2008 Report Posted December 21, 2008 I hate cats but some are pretty smart Quote
F1SSS Posted December 22, 2008 Report Posted December 22, 2008 (edited) Some animals are damn smart. Thats a good find. +1 for the kitties keeping that child alive (they deserve free cat nip for a life). Now to find the mother and father of the baby and throw them in the dungeon. Rausche Posted December 23, 2008 Report Posted December 23, 2008 Reminds me of the story about a German Shepard protecting her owner's dead body for a week out in the wild. ...Crazy cats. Quote
