eddieo818 Posted December 22, 2008 Report Posted December 22, 2008 (edited) Okay so me and the ol'lady go do some more x-mas shopping at a local mall so we park walk in the mall do what we went to do and leave when im walking up to the car I notice the bumper had been hit so I walk up quicker to take a better look and some had backed into the front of my car tearing the front bumper to shit hitting one headlight and shoving it further inside the housing thus bending the fender causing the paint to crack!!! So basiclly it come down to the front bumper cover, headlight, and fender. Now my big dilemma is if I should claim it to my insurance or should i just repair it myself?? The reason why im insure is because not sure if my rate will go up for something like this?? Will filing a claim result in a rate hike? Zath Posted December 22, 2008 Report Posted December 22, 2008 Im guessing yes as the money has to come from somewhere.. mall have cameras or anything? Been in a vehicle when someone backed into my friends rear bumper (was older ford so no damage) but the old lady just drove off.. clearly damage on her car.. id like to know how people dont notice these things? scooter3 Posted December 22, 2008 Report Posted December 22, 2008 That sucks man. It will depend on how much your deductible is. If the damage is more then the deductible then file it. It should not affect your premium that much. Call your agent. If he is cool he will tell you the best move. Quote

scooter3 Posted December 22, 2008 Report Posted December 22, 2008 Wouldnt uninsured motorist cover this without a hike? I believe I have that on my policy. It should. Find out how much. Sounds like a bit of damage so it could be pretty high. When stuff like this happens to me I always call my agent. He will give me the digs on what to do and let me know if it is worth filing or not. Good luck. Quote
eddieo818 Posted December 22, 2008 Author Report Posted December 22, 2008 I will give my agent a call in bit see what he has to say... Quote

Fireman31 Posted December 22, 2008 Report Posted December 22, 2008 Did you get a police report? That's a hit and run and should have been reported to the police since there was extensive property damage. Also check to see if the mall has parking lot security cameras...... Quote
eddieo818 Posted December 22, 2008 Author Report Posted December 22, 2008 No cameras in the area and no report... But i can still make one right. Quote
Fireman31 Posted December 22, 2008 Report Posted December 22, 2008 No cameras in the area and no report... But i can still make one right. You can and should, especially for your insurance........you really should have done it right there or at least that day, better now than never..... Quote
Turbocoop Posted December 22, 2008 Report Posted December 22, 2008 you better file a report to be safe, if you still can. That really sucks btw its never happened to me but it happened to my moms brand new car Quote

Wouldn't that be considered private property since it was a parking lot? I thought they would not run reports for things on private property like that? I could be wrong. Quote
wishminewasanss Posted December 22, 2008 Report Posted December 22, 2008 That's sucks dude, and the police will file a report no matter where, when my sis got her seats stolen we filed one. Anyways the same thing happened to me but you had it worst they hit my fender only. Good luck dude. Quote
artval Posted December 23, 2008 Report Posted December 23, 2008 Man, i feel your pain. I have decided to completely give up on the competency of other drivers here where I live. For the last few months my truck has receaved five hits in parking lots. One being the worst when they hit the front bumper, left door cladding (tearing it off and bending it to hell), rear passenger side cladding all the way back to the rear bumper putting some nasty scratches and dents. Others have been door dings, other scratches on the bumpers and sides. And it's not like I park in the congested areas of the parking lots. I park where there are no other cars. I don't understand. I don't even think of fixing the problems because it's just going to happen again. Quote
