detjoe Posted December 28, 2008 Author Report Posted December 28, 2008 cant say if he screwed people over but he did have a shop that closed real quick. If you were screwed over please let us know. Quote
brobradh77 Posted December 28, 2008 Report Posted December 28, 2008 yeah I dunno about what went down..it seemed that alot of people had orders out and then he just closed up shop..not sure if it was all taken care of or not. Quote
70chevy03ss Posted December 28, 2008 Report Posted December 28, 2008 I thought that I read a write up about how he was getting a divorce and the wife was going to take the shop thats why he closed so quick. i was going to have him install my pro charger and he gave me awsome quote at the time. Then the doors closed. I know that there is a write up some where on all this.. Quote
Fireman31 Posted December 28, 2008 Report Posted December 28, 2008 (edited) Lovely, the invisible Mr. Tom Byrne returns.........I placed an order for coated Dynatech LTs/cats 1 week before he up and left....never got my headers. Thankfully I did not get charged for them. I waited a month for them thinking I got a great deal because they were on sale, but they never came. I tried calling for an update only to find that the phone number was disconnected. Never received an e-mail or a phone call telling me that my order was never placed and that he was going out of business. I checked with Dynatech and Jet-Hot to see if they had a record of an order for me, but nothing. I had to re-order them through Summit Racing and send them out separately for coating(TJ to the rescue), cost me damn near an extra $600 or so in the long run. IMO that was a sh*tty thing to do, to leave your customers high and dry with a bag over their heads, while you close your doors and run away from everything.......bad business plain and simple. I don't plan on doing business with TByrne ever again....... EDIT - I remember hearing of his nasty divorce, but you still don't treat repeat customers like that...at the end of the day, there is still a business to run and customers to take care of....... I agree with you. I wasn't sticking up for him at all. I did get a re quote for the install and he was WAY WAY to over priced.. Edited December 28, 2008 by sick03ssbad70velle (see edit history) Quote

Black2003SS Posted December 28, 2008 Report Posted December 28, 2008 I have to take a more neutral approach on this one. Sure, when he closed his doors, he stopped servicing his clients. Thats the point of going out of business. Alot of companies that go out of business stop servicing their clients. He made the financial decision to not be in business any longer and I doubt it felt any better for him than it did for you. He loved his business and it was his pride an joy. He was also a fairly good business man. I placed a couple of orders through him and was happy. They were always helpful and when he was in business, his customers came first. I wouldnt necessarily call it running away from anything. Put yourself in his shoes. We dont know the circumstances of his divorce. There are alot of pains and dirty things that go on in a divorce that probably forced him to make that decision. His attorney might have even advised it. By going out of business, he might have saved himself tens of thousands or more in his divorce. Maybe it was just business was down and he couldnt pump any more money into it. Either way, at least you didnt get charged. If he charged someone and never sent product, that is fraud and a crime, especially if he knew he planned to close the doors. Not doing business with him again is your choice, and not necessarily a bad one. I know you lost out on a great deal on some headers, but the business closed and I personally wouldnt take it as hard. There are alot of businesses that close, go out of business, dont fill orders any longer, even after being placed. its just business. I doubt he set out to screw anyone over, but he had to look after numero uno, himself. The same thing you and I would do if we were ever possibly in his shoes. Very hard to judge when we really dont know all of the circumstances, only speculation. But, in closing, if he did accept payment, and didnt ship any product or provide a refund, he better make it right before going back into business or let him suffer the consequences. Quote

Likewise I understand that it was a difficult time for him, but to take my order and lead me to believe I was going to receive something is . Like I said, business is business, and out of courtesy and consideration for the customer(s), we should have been notified that our orders were cancelled, and the unfortunate news that he was closing up shop. To leave us sitting with a big over our heads and no answers is a bunch of crap. I have been working in the business world for a decade now, and I will tell you first hand that how we as customers were left hanging regardless of his divorce situation, is absolute bad business, end of story. Big O Posted December 29, 2008 Report Posted December 29, 2008 hahahaha ... wow ... you guys should do some reading on other forums about this situation ... you will feel cheated and lied to. I'm pretty sure if you even say his name on a couple of forums you will come home to a house on fire. I wouldn't want to be associated with this at all. <walks out of room quickly> Quote
