hawks Posted December 29, 2008 Report Posted December 29, 2008 Tried to smoke the third brake light twice with the night shades vht and both times the paint has cracks in it. I wet sanded the lens and cleaned it with wax and grease removal and the second time I used alcohol. I can't get the shit to work. Anyoneelse had this problem. Quote
Turbocoop Posted December 30, 2008 Report Posted December 30, 2008 I had the same problem too I couldnt get it to dry without the little cracks forming. I sent mine to this guy - jonstintedtails.com and he did a great job with it. Quote
NTMD8R_SS Posted December 30, 2008 Report Posted December 30, 2008 (edited) I did mine whit niteshades and had no cracks or anything, make sure its warm out when you spray it. I had jonstintedtails.com do my tailights, he does good work. Edited December 30, 2008 by NTMD8R_SS (see edit history) Quote
ces63ss Posted December 30, 2008 Report Posted December 30, 2008 /\/\/\/\ make sure its warm. that is your problem. its too cold when you are painting it more then likely. Quote
dubdaddy420 Posted December 30, 2008 Report Posted December 30, 2008 Sometimes it's just the paint, I did it with niteshades in ideal conditions and it did this. I got so mad i threw and broke the light so I had to buy a new from the dealer(luckily I get it at cost), cause I had a truck show the next day. Now I just rock the stock red, with so many people with black trucks tinting theres these days. That seems like the stand out thing. Honestly if you want them tinted take it to a body shop, it doesn't cost that much and looks a million times better. Just my .02 Quote

Turbocoop Posted December 30, 2008 Report Posted December 30, 2008 Sometimes I get spray paint and it just wont turn out good at all, then I look at the date and its old as hell. Maybe this stuff has a shelf life??? I did my taillights and the 3rd brake light at the same time in the same room and the taillights turned out ok but the 3rd was all cracked up... Danny needs to get in here he might know why, I think he said he didnt do the 3rd brake lenses so theres probably a reason Quote
JSTAL Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 the stock third brake light wont take paint. you have to buy after market Quote
hawks Posted December 31, 2008 Author Report Posted December 31, 2008 Hey guys! I didn't know if I should try the taillights or not. So I had the stock chevy emblem out of my grille and sprayed it and it did fine. So I said the hell with it and sprayed a lite coat on the tails and it did fine. I used the vht nightshades and a can of the Spraymax 2k clear coat and they turned out great. If anyone hasn't tried the Spraymax I would recommend it. It's a 2 part clear with the hardener. Also I went ahead and sprayed the third brake light cover and light with the clear because the light and cover was dulled from the sunlight. Looks like new now. Quote
