harley Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 Can i take a 03 SS Awd and make it 2wd by just pulling the front drive shaft and front axle shaft? Quote
Fireman31 Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 you would need to remove the front axle, front drive shaft, rear drive shaft, and transfer case first, then a new rear drive shaft would have to be fabricated..... welcome to the site Quote

So i gain all the hp to the rear and that way i could put it back to awd in the winter. Quote
BG06SILVERADO Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 not to sound rude but why bother!! Quote

harley Posted December 31, 2008 Author Report Posted December 31, 2008 not to sound rude but why bother!!takes a lot of hp to push all 4 .Only if you don't like your truck.tell me why Quote
Fireman31 Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 No you cannot do that.....driving on the street without a front drive shaft will destroy the viscous clutches in your transfer case..... Quote
BG06SILVERADO Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 it also takes $$$ to replace the tires after you burn them up in bad weather or just having too much fun!!my thought is GM designed the truck that way for a reason. i wish i even could have found or can afford an SS!!! Quote
JF-03-SS Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 It will ruin the transfer case. It is designed to run both front and rear driveshafts that is why there is no lever or switch to run 2wd. Also your truck will not have anymore HP by being 2wd. Quote

sprayed99 Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 FYI you would also have to change the output shaft and the tailhousing to go RWD Quote

You dont think it take more hp to pull all four? Quote
JF-03-SS Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 You dont think it take more hp to pull all four? You would still have the same HP output from your engine. Quote
Fireman31 Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 You dont think it take more hp to pull all four? no, with RWD 100% of your power goes to the rear wheels, with AWD the transfer case splits the power to 38% front and 62% rear I believe..... Quote
sprayed99 Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 If your asking if the truck would be faster...yes it will produce more power to the ground and also have less mass to rotate. therefore making the vehicle not only faster but lighter. Quote
