ANGRY6LITER Posted January 1, 2009 Report Posted January 1, 2009 So, I blew the STOCK trans today and ordered MONSTER MOTORSPORTS SS Mega Monster (for up to 650hp) Transmission - Part# SS304-4L65E and the Punisher Pro-Street 2300-2500 Stall 4L65E Torque Converter - Part# B85-7731. My question to all you guys who have already "been there, and done that" is: Is there a bigger trans-cooler or upgrade trans-cooler kit that will bolt right in? Or will it be an in-depth, custom install making a bigger one fit? PLEASE provide me with a PART # of such an upgrade kit if one exists. (Or a Parts # list of what you used to upgrade your stock trans-cooler). Question #2: Will the PCM definitely have to be retuned for the new trans and torque converter? Thanks in advance for suggestions/assistance. Quote

Are you planning on the SC causing it to flash higher or is that the going stall rate for a SC application? and true cool cooler, i also did a write up on it if you want to search my name and trans. What trans temps where you at before it blew. Not that it will hurt but are sure you need on at 2500 stall? Edited January 1, 2009 by shadowsniper3006 (see edit history) Quote
ANGRY6LITER Posted January 2, 2009 Author Report Posted January 2, 2009 if i may ask, why a 2300-2500 stall? Are you planning on the SC causing it to flash higher or is that the going stall rate for a SC application? and true cool cooler, i also did a write up on it if you want to search my name and trans. What trans temps where you at before it blew. Not that it will hurt but are sure you need on at 2500 stall? When the trans blew i was wide open merging onto the highway when it blew (3rd and 4th slipping bad) (1st, 2nd and Reverse still good). I had only been driving for like 5 minutes since i live very close to the highway so the trans could not have been that hot. I believe the real damage was done the day before when i was spanking some Crustang GT's from light to light (felt it start to slip then). The reason i went with the 2300-2500 is to get better launches with my daily driver i occasionally race, but did not want to go all the way up to the 2800-3200 like alot of guys with superchargers do [gotta build that boost]. Then as far as the trans cooler goes, i figured i might as well upgrade that too while im at it. Better safe than sorry i figure. Thanks to everybody for the help. Quote
Fireman31 Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 Just a little tid bit for you, most 2600 to 3000 stall TCs drive like stock until your foot is in it. 2600-2800 is usually the most popular for FI applications, and 3000+ for NA applications. I had a 2800 stall PI on my last trans and currently have a 3000 stall PI on my built trans, both drive like stock until you are at 1/2 throttle plus, then hold on!! Quote
brobradh77 Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 (edited) I am with dan...you will never know that a 2600-2800 or even a 3000 stall is in it until you get your foot into it. I would sit down and think about what mods i plan on doing and size the converter accordingly..the last thing you want to do is spend $$$ on a TC that your going to have to swap out in the future IMO. shadowsniper3006 Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 honestly my 2700 PI drove so much like stock i hated it.... not to question you but like the guys said i'd hate to see you spend all that money to not be happy with your stall, a 2800-3000 might as well be stock under normal driving. ANGRY6LITER Posted January 2, 2009 Author Report Posted January 2, 2009 Well I'm sold then. Like i said before, that is why I LOVE THIS SITE. It is awesome to get the scoop on stuff that you guys have already toyed with. I am going to call MONSTER MOTORSPORTS Monday and tell them I want the 2800-3200 converter instead. (Heck, its only a $50 increase in price) Thanks SS Veterans!! Quote
shadowsniper3006 Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 (edited) Make sure they know you are supercharged when you order it....next thing you know your 2800 NA stall flashes at 3400 because of the bottom end torque. Edited January 2, 2009 by shadowsniper3006 (see edit history) Quote
Krambo Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 Make sure they know you are supercharged when you order it....next thing you know your 2800 NA stall flashes at 3400 because of the bottom end torque. I agree with Brad. Get the best converter you can and be sure to tell them your mods and approx power level and weight. My opinion, minimum of 3000 stall for your set-up. Quote
ANGRY6LITER Posted January 7, 2009 Author Report Posted January 7, 2009 Thanks again guys. Its all ordered. Waiting on the FedEx guy now. Quote
packjh Posted January 7, 2009 Report Posted January 7, 2009 just throwing in my two cents....if you live around hills like a i do a 3k stall can cause alot of high rpm driving i heat up my tranny quick but my FLT trans has held together so far Quote
