wody
at this point it could be a number of things, but mainly i would be concerned about how accurate the gauge is on the refill bottle. other possibilities could be faulty clutch, failed pressure switch, or an open wire. i've seen people replace compressors just because they are getting "power" to the clutch and never checked the ground side, so when they put the new compressor on the problem still existed (3 times in fact). lots of other checks you could do. i'd start with are you getting "power" and ground to the clutch, if you are then you know your clutch is bad and that everything else is good. just real quick question: does the compressor run when you turn the a/c on? IndySilveradoSS
no, i had to leave for a family event, but it doesn't sound like the compressor is cycling on, normally i hear a click when the compressor was on, but it doesn't do it. when the compressor shits out, doesn't it normally lock up? wody
normally yes, but then you would hear a very obnoxious ticking sound of the belt tensioner bouncing. in this case check to make sure you are getting power and ground to the clutch with the a/c and key on. IndySilveradoSS
well, got to looking at my truck more thouroughly today, and the reason i never heard the compressor cycle on and off is the belt is off!! how the hell that happened is beyond me, but they almost never work good with out it. hopefully it's not that hard to put back on, and that's the only problem. wody
make sure the clutch turns by hand.
IndySilveradoSS
if it doesn't, that means the clutch and/or compressor is bad and needs replaced, correct? btw, what is the best way to get in there and put the belt back on, it looks like a bitch. blackbeast ss
if it doesn't, that means the clutch and/or compressor is bad and needs replaced, correct? btw, what is the best way to get in there and put the belt back on, it looks like a bitch. the belt is verry easy to put back on......checking the pulley to see if it spins is not gonna tell you much without the compressor being engaged, turn your ac on and without the belt on turn the compressor is gonna be a little hard to turn because now your trying to compress the refrigerant if it doesnt spin at all your compressor is shot.....dont go by the gage that comes with the refill botles they suck.best way to check charge is to hook up a high side gage and low side gage.put some gages on and post up the pressures and abient temp and i will tell you if its low.....put a new belt on also
