96vteccd5
I posted this on GM-trucks but figure I would run it past you guys also. So here are the symptoms. The truck has been sitting for only a week. Down here in MD it’s been pretty cold and we finally had so some. So I drove the truck to work today and for some reason I was hearing a growling that I could also feel in the truck. I heard it at really low speeds and then I heard it once again around 50 mph. I heard it one time going up hill for a slight sec then went away. I am thinking since the tranny was cold and the fluid was trying to warm up that might be a cause but I wanted to run it past the truck gurus. Fluid in the tranny is clean and the levels are perfect. I planned to get a shift kit installed and a few other things serviced along with new filter and fluid next month. Truck does drive perfectly normal though. It’s a 1500 ext cab 2WD w/ drums. Any ideas? Edited December 7, 2009 by 05on20's (see edit history)
desrtrat
did it go away after the truck wormed up? it may not be the tranny. i would check breaks, bearings, and rear end fluid level. maybe your truck is pissed at you for letting it sit in the cold all those days.. keep an ear on it. could be nothing.. good luck
96vteccd5
Yea once the truck warmed up to operating temps the sound went away. I just replaced the brakes pads, rotors and lines. Bearings have not been touched though. 75K and counting.
Fireman31
Where do you hear the growl coming from? Front or rear?
96vteccd5
Hard to tell. It sounds like it is right under me though.
70chevy03ss
wheel bearing??????
96vteccd5
I was thinking that might be the case although on my honda when the wheel bearing went it made a whirring sound not a growling/howling sound. I was able to feel that shit in the gas pedal also. Very strange.
