mikesanan
Hi I am new to the site I don't even have an SS right now its just I've been looking into them and I figured this would be one of the best places to get information on them right from the people that own them. I went to go see a truck yesterday and it is an 04 Silverado reg cab short box but the guy sent me a list of mods, SS 6.0L V8 AEM bruteforce Intake ceramic longtube headers full 3" borla exhaust Detroit Tru-Track locker air bag rear suspension cowl induction hood 20" rims 33" pro-comp Extreme Mud-terrains HID (High Intensity Discharge Headlights) BRAND NEW GM transmission with a 3 year 100,000 mile warranty I went to go see it and the truck is clean it is in very good condition underneath, he took me out for a ride and it runs smooth shifts great and sounds healthy but he says the motor has got about 100,000 miles on it. Now I know that with most Chevy's thats still got a good amount of life left to it, its just with that 6.0L i'm not sure what they are usually capable of doing. I'm a college student right now and cant really afford anything costly like a motor. I was just wondering what you all think.
kcsilveradoss
Mine has over 110k on it, starts quietly, runs perfectly. drove it to south dakota and didnt hesitate. take care of it, and it will take care of you
SSplaytoy
The 6.0 is a good motor. You shouldn't have any problems with it as long as it was/will be taken care of properly. The transmissions usually give the most problems, but it comes with a new one and a warranty so you should be fine there. If it is all at a good price, I say go for it. tburkdoll
If well taken care of it should be ok but your pick up your looking at isnt an SS if its a regular cab. SS's are all ext cabs but ya the 6.0 is a very strong engine especially if taken care of
mikesanan
Yeah I know its not an SS, its a wannabe. The thing I am worried about is I am not sure how it has been ridden, I am pretty sure it has been ridden hard considering everything that has been done to it and he has said that he raced it before. But I figured that the 6.0L should be built to handle some abuse, I know if I buy it that I am gonna have my days where I ride it hard but I think thats normal to some extent. So I'm still confused because its on the fence when you put money into it you want to ride it hard obviously but then you also want to take good care of your investment. kcsilveradoss
Trust me when i say that my truck has not had an easy life, it barely warms up each morning when I leave late for work, and gets pounded the whole way there so I make it on time. The only time it sees the speed limit is in funeral processions or school zones. but it gets maintenance every 3k miles, and i have never had even close to low oil pressure

mikesanan
Yeah it seems like it has been well maintained i saw his oil change sticker and he runs synthetic oil, and the truck is very clean so i can imagine that he has taken good care of it, he told me that he has over 15K invested so i would assume that he would like to protect his investment. Since were on the topic of this truck he told me it has a rebuilt title on it. He explained to me it had the same title when he bought, he said he bought it from a local garage that specialized in taking wrecks and fixing and reselling them. What had happened was the truck had a rollpan and someone rear ended the owner, since there was no squish room the truck hit the bottom flat where his hitch was and bent part of the frame, so apparently he bent the frame back and its all straight i guess it didn't even hit hard enough to send anything out of wack, it was just that frame lip bent. It has been inspected for 2-3 years now since the accident with no problems would you guys be worried by this???
mikesanan
Ohh i might as well post the link to the ad for the truck so you can see it for yourself. http://maine.craigslist.org/cto/1586493691.html

mikesanan
Yeah I went to go see it in person, I live in northern Maine myself and I work at a garage so I checked out all the brake lines and everything is find there the backing plates are in good shape pads and rotors still look good, frame is in just about as good condition as you can expect for a 6 year old truck in Norther Maine considering all the salt and calcium they put on the roads. What do you guys think about the rebuilt tite?????
