2bfast
Making this thread showing the progress of my 60E rebuild. Out of all the transmission guys on the site not sure if anyonne has posted something like this. Also not sure if you can consider this a "how-to" but it might be close. I definatly dont consider myself an experienced transmission builder by any means, but iv been through a few during school and figured I would test my skills on my own transmission. Parts list: Corvette intermediate servo Sonnax billet overdrive servo Double cage 29 element forward sprag Low/Reverse spring roller Alto red low/reverse clutches and Koleen steels Alto carbon oversized 2/4 power band w/ reinforced anchor New input drum/housing Rebestos blue 3/4 clutches and steels Rebestos blue overrun clutches and Koleen steels Beast reaction shell New reaction sun gear GM rear 5 planetary gear set Rear carrier ring gear Thrust bearing kit Sonnax boost valve Billet forward accumulator Billet 1-2 accumulator EPC Solenoid Superier valve body shift correction kit 4L65-E overhaul kit(gaskets, seals, ect) GM updated valve body seperator plate Billet 300m output shaft Billet 300m input shaft Billet input drum sleeve & piston RPM high-rev spring kit More parts will be added as I go. 2bfast
Front planets removed from input gear Reaction sun shell Reaction shell removed Reaction sun gear removed Here is where the sun gear splines with the reaction shell. This is one of the many weak points in a 60E. Alot of times you will see the collar sheered off the shell Here is the low/reverse clutch support assembly, roller sprag and race, L/R clutch pack, and reaction carrier assembly (or rear planetaries). Also output shaft Retaining ring removed Snap ring Continued........
2bfast
Roller race Sometimes the low/reverse assembly gets stuck in the case. Giving the end of output shaft a few hits will free it up. Pull out L/R ......and the carnage begins Here you can see the ring gear had got really hot Toasted clutches and steels Self explanitory Got inspecting the rear carrier and found all 5 planet gears with chipped teeth. Damn it! Reverse input clutch assembly in the input drum Continued..........

Here is the 3/4 clutch backing plate retaining ring 3rd and 4th clutches and steels. Another weak point in the 60E. You can see the clutches are burned and the steels have got hot. Usually caused by shifting from 3rd to 4th at WOT in high horsepower applications, or towing. You can see the clutches are burned and the steels are bad Input sun gear Continued................. zippy
Looks like you're doing a very good job. Excellent choice of parts for your build. Odd that you burned up a Low/Reverse set of clutches. Those are very rare to have fail. Either way, great pictures and great choices on parts. I currently have a few apart at work and one of those is a top notch type build as you are doing for a GTO with a 500RWHP 402 inch setup with a 250 shot to go with it. Thanks for posting pictures like this, it's alot of work and you are doing a great job with it. I might post some of mine one of these days.
