dcairns
For those of you that have not had a chance to look or don't have one to look at yet, here are what the wheel center caps look like. Sorry for the crummy camera. As you might guess, I am figuring out how to get the wheels chromed or polished and get the center caps to match. It is possible to get the plastic "chromed" rather cheaply. The problem is how to deal with the metal insert in the middle. I am not sure vacuum deposit plastic chroming can work around that. Here is the back side. Matte grey plastic, made in Italy. Has a picture of a valve stem to show the orientation when putting it back on. Here is the front side. Painted outer and chrome metal insert in the middle. It is either a force fit or glued in there. No obvious way to get it out without screwing it up. Side view. Here is what the wheel looks like without the cap. Might look ok with chromed lug nuts and dust cover.
shopman1
If enough guys what to polish or chrom the wheels, an estimate from a metal shop to manufacture a new center cap is an option. It could be polished or chromed. Just an idea.
dcairns
The long term answer may be to wait for the 04 SS to come out. If they use the chrome wheels, like they show on the SEMA regular cab truck, then the chrome center caps may just pop right in our wheels. We could just order them from GM. If they end up puting out the rims as shown in this picture and I decide to change my stock ones, I will most likely try and buy a set of them. I can only imagine how much it would cost me to replace them through GM though... Justin

One is losing the passenger door lock. I will pull up the rest tomorrow and post them. Most of them won't be obivious to you .
gshields
Thanks Hamur for no chrome wheels for 2004. I'd really hate waiting 5 or more months for a 2003 only to see wholesale changes to the next model year. I love chrome wheels, but give us a break on this one. Please! What that means is they will be available Jan. 2004. Don't know what they will look like yet. Don't know what the RPO is but when I do I will let you know. Sorry, gshields! Krambo
Hamur, Let us know as soon as possible the cost of purchasing these wheels for the unlucky people that have bought an 03. Thank you for all of the inside information. Are some of these changes a result of customer suggestions? If so lets keep up the wish list!

johnsen
just wanted to know what you guys thought of an aftermarket co. like performance wheel outlet making chrome copys of the wheel. my brother bought a set of camaro ss wheels from them and they look good. i'm not big on polished wheels because they are alot of maintenance on a daily driver and if you are worried about having an all original truck, sounds like most arn't, you can just store the originals. From the Plant side I can tell you this. We were disappointed that they didn't have chrome/poslished wheels. We produced them on the C3 and it worked out. From a customer side I know what I would be using this vehicle for and where I live. I could not support chrome/polished wheels. I would have to put them away and have winter wheels. Mainly because I can't afford to put the SS away. It has to be my "driver", but then again they only pay me in "Canadian Dollars".
