Question About Temp Gauge And Engine Coolant

Well the bottom left gauge (below the fasten seat belt light and high beams light) always stays at 100 except for the couple of times it creeps up 10-20 or so. Once upon a time my dash said LOW COOLANT LEVEL, I have bought coolant (the orange kind) and am ready to put more in. Why does this gauge always read 100? When I put the coolant in do I need to drain the original fluid or can I just top it off?

First things first: The gauge on the bottom left is the TRANS fluid temp. And the temp reading is the same as mine so there isn't a prob.

Second: Open the hood, and look next to your airbox. There is a tank there that is somewhat clear. On the front of the tank ( facing the engine) are two lines and writing that says full hot, and full cold. You should see the coolant in the tank at this area. If not then you should add according to your owners manual. If you are really low on coolant check for leaks ( hoses, waterpump, radiator, etc), and if no leaks are found you might want to have a cooling system pressure check done.
