New Guy With Questions About Awd Transfer Case

Recommended Posts

hello everyone, i dont own a silvy ss, but i have a interesting project taking place, a OBS SS :)

to the point, iv been waiting to convert my 97 4x4 to AWD. i finnaly found a transfer case to do t, iv been hunting for a NVG149, but no luck. i picked up (well not yet) a Borg warner unit out of a 04 esky. id like some more info on this unit, how well it works, how much power can it handle, etc.

thanks in advance :D

from my understanding, ABS is only used to slow down the front/rear wheel when they start spinning. this transfer case may not work the best in the rain, or when i get to higher HP levels, but for now i think it will do. as soon as i find a NVG149, ill swap to it :D

  • 2 weeks later...

the borg warner has an open diff to transmit power. the truck uses a 4 channel abs system to sense wheel slip and applies the brakes to the wheel and forces the t-case to transfer power. the t-case itself does not need to sense wheel speed differences due to the truck useing the 4 channel abs. if you don't have the abs you'll do some awesome front wheel burn outs (when it unloads) but thats about it. this why i ditch mine and went to the 149 case. their not very strong either.

I don't think you will see what AWD is with that Tcase... as said before you need ABS/stability control for it to function... your truck doesn't have either of them. you will be doing either fwd burnouts or rwd...

What motor do you have in the truck? Im sure hoping your planning on swaping to an LS based motor. I think youll have a hard time making big power with that stock motor that comes in the older trucks.

well like i said. his trucks runs a 12.9, and it does it just fine lol

how much does a used nvg149 run?

I am not trying to change your mind or anything. And if the TC works, well then great... People have ran faster than that with an open rear diff, and just DRs.
