From Cai To Exhaust

Recommended Posts

Ok, im looking for mod's... I have a 1k-1.2k budget, complete from CAI to headers, to exhaust. Ive been browsing around... And so far, just found...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Volant-Cold-Air-Intake-GM-4-8L-5-3L-6-0L-Trucks-SUVs-/390286503412?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Model%3ASilverado+1500|Submodel%3ASS&hash=item5adee36df4

For the CAI. What do you guys think?

I need some suggestions on heads, and a complete exhaust kit.

I was looking at cherry bomb extreme, of flowmaster super 40 for the muffler.

If someone can help me peice some nice mods together i'd appreciate it.. Part numbers included. Thanks.

Alot of guys are running volant cai or K&N so ur on the right track there although pretty much any cai will give u similar results even making one yourself

for the headers, i have pacesetters that are coated with their coating, they were like 500 and theyve held up nicely, but im down south and dont have to deal with road salt or anything, if you get those headers you might want to get them ceramic coated for protection and heat, also obx has some really nice LT's that include cats if youre worried about that, u can usually find them on ebay, havent heard anything bad about them

I was looking at those OBX headers, how well will the placement be? I'm not to savee with headers and all. My pops will be the one installing. Will I have any issues? Any other parts needed to install? Or will this complete? Im looking for a complete exhaust kit too. Can I keep stock pipes and just throw a muffler on with some tips? Thanks

im not sure about the placement with obx's some one with them will have to chime in. i know the pacesetters are a tight squeeze but do-able, obx comes with pretty much everything, but if you go pacesetter you'll need new gaskets, dont use the crappy ones they come with just get some new oem ones, as far as exhaust goes, i not sure if the stock exhaust bolts right up to the obx's, but with the pacesetters there will be a little custom work needed well at least for mine. id go with the obx's if i had to do mine over. for mufflers, magnaflow is a straight through design, as opposed to flowmasters chambered design, magnaflows flow better, flowmasters are generally louder. i have a flowMONSTER muffler, same design as magnaflow without the brand name, stainless steel, over all good sound, design and durability

I did a set of Obx's for a customer just a few months back. They are decent copies of the dynatech but I am not overly impressed with the quality. What I will tell you is the ebay ones came setup for a direct replacement to the 5.3 exhaust. They mate the two crossover pipes to a single flange rather than the dual pipes as the SS trucks have. By the time all was said and done I would have rather seen the guy spend a couple hundred bucks more and gotten the dynatech's or American racing. You definitely get what you pay for. I know that when guys want to do it on the cheap they try to get the best ebay deals they can but when you don't have the access to fab equipment or a lift it limits what you can do. By the time all was said and done when I modified the pipes and made it work with the existing SS exhaust he had another 150 bucks into it so he was just about 300 bucks away from an American made well built product not a knock off built overseas. It's personal preference of course but I would definitely suggest if your dad is doing this on a garage floor then get the right parts that are made specifically for the SS truck. There are a half a dozen companies out there that make setups. The pace setters actually are also designed around the 5.3 the pipe they offer to mate up to the cat back is actually the direct replacement to the 5.3 pipe. You can absolutely use the headers but you will have to do some fabrication especially if you plan on keeping the cats.

Good luck hope that helped

When I installed my OBX's they went in no problem and bolted right in. But I have heard some having some issues with fitment.

Well I bought a corsa sport exhaust, and a volant CAI. Im still not sure on the headers I might wait till I get home, to do some more research in person. Thanks for the info

So whats your remaining balance after the cat back and CAI...?

Well since I just got paid, another 600$ lol. I got the CAI/Exhaust from autoanything.com, payed 6xx$ for the corsa and 26x$ for the CAI. They give a 10% first time buyer, and 10% military discount :)...

Well for $600 you can get new coated pacesetter headers or find a decent set of used ones.....
