nastyhabit
So I drive my truck daily and it's the third winter on these 17" rims and BLIZZAKS - even with them it's sometimes sketchy going out before the roads are really cleaned up. I didn't put weight in the back this year or last so you see traction control jump in and it helps - except on starts going uphill in packed snow...... so I avoid those intersections. Anyways I drive home from work Mon-Thurs at 10-11pm on a 65 MPH stretch of less traveled highway. It's got a LONG straight (hit 150 once, braking to 120 for the corner at end in my V8 S4) leading into a sweeping elevated S curve. I'm not usually the only one rushing home well above the limit. Well so this winter I've had my azz handed to me by 5 or more cars - on that straight or another section with good visabilty. The snows get scary over 100 and I back off. Ughhhhhh Anyways Easter weekend is when I normally swap to Summer wheels/tires. My original LS2's are shot and I need tire advice - whats the stickiest lowest treadware tire avail? OEM size or bigger - on stock 20's...... Tonight it was a GT3000? that I had to let go......
f1ss
Blizzaks are great imo, but I raced those with awd applications on a car. I would try going with a smaller width rim, the stock rims are to wide for snow use imo, but they still do the job and can rage the awd trucks well. I would just try a smaller width rim. Their was a big difference when we swapped to a smaller width tire on the awd car. Hope this helps
nastyhabit
My Blizzaks are on narrower 17's already. My 20's are in the basement. I'm looking for 20" summer tire advice so I can go FAST again
jddmj
Friend of mine has g-force tires on his 01 gt mustang, they are crazy sticky. Been around a truck with Nitto 555's, and they wasnt half bad. But if it was me, and available for the application, I would go g-force. SilverBulletSS
Gumbo, you can run some BFG Gforce T/A KDW's in 295/45/20 on your stockers. These are what I'll be running this year on my stockers if I dont give in and buy 22" replica's, where in that case i"ll be running these in a 305/40/22... These tires are amazing, ran them on my Z28 for a long time and that car made 3 times the hp of our trucks!! Here's the link.... http://www.tirerack....KDW+2&code=yes Trust me you'll love em!!!! Don't they have that size anymore? They are perfect even at full lock.

They are perfect even at full lock. Just checked - ON backorder and $279 each ! Wound up thinking about getting 10" wide wheels then saw some 12" wide wheels you can run 325s on. Trying to decide what I'm doing.... still have snows on and haven't killed myself yet, but sway bars are on the way and I'll need sticky rubber sooner than later. Warden
This size calculater will help decide on different size tires.I wouldn't think that I would have to get the BFGs,especially at that price and if they are not available.I'm sure there are other tires that are just as good or close for less money. You really need to decide if you are going to do any autocross driving or you just want a quality tire that will handle some spirited driving.I think putting an expensive low wear tire on a 5300# truck is nuts.IMHO. Good luck. http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.asp?action=submit
