Blackout03
Hi guys, I don't post to the forums very often but I do read them. I am having problems with my HIDs in my truck. I started with rikensports which seemed to serve me well until I started getting misfires on the passenger side. After dealing with misfires for a while I had previously planned on adding HIDs in my high beams so I decided to switch brands and went with ddm tuning 55w. The ddm tuning seemed to look great and they still work in my high beams. Then seemed to last about 4 months before I started to again have misfires on my right passenger side low beam. I tried to switch the bulbs and the ballasts from side to side and detemined at a minimum it wasn't the bulbs. So I decided to order the relay harness kit recommended by ddm to prevent issues such as misfires. So I installed the relay harness wiring the in directly to the battery as recommended. When I turned on the lights I blew the fuse for the passenger side low beam. I thought I may have a reverse polarity on that side (as I read that may be possible in our trucks) so I replaced the fuse and switch the bulbs leads for the light. Again when I turned on the lights the fuses blew. So, frustrated, I removed the harness and wired back to the stock light leads in the truck and it nly fires the drivers side light. So for now I removed the relay harness and installed my stock halogen bulbs until I can figure out whats going on. Additionally I have a little 2wd s10 sport truck so I decided to put the rikensport lights in that truck. I get the same issue with the right side light misfiring. Although, a quick flip of the high beams and back to low a time or two tends to fire the light right up. I decided MAYBE just MAYBE the harness would do the trick in this truck. So i installed the harness here. When I turn on the lights nothing comes on. I hear the click of the relay but the light do not fire. Again thinking a polarity issue I flipped the leads on one of the bulbs. Nope blew that fuse. So now im back to square one. No harness with rikensports misfiring in the s10. and ddm tuning in the SS but only in the high beams. So far the highs are all I have gotten to work succesfully without misfires. Although the startup/warmup time is annoying when flipping between the two on a dark road. Any suggestion you guys might have for me would be appreciated. Should I be buying ANOTHER new set of ballasts? Should I mix the rikensport ballast with the ddm tuning ballast? Has anyone ever had an any issues with the relay harness? Thank guys Eric

paulguy
If your passenger side is not turning on is because f low voltage. A meter will determine whether this is the problem. To fix this you installed the relay harness. If you blew a fuse then either the relay is bad or you installed it wrong. The problem is usually the the installer. I've never seen ballasts short to ground. Usually when they don't work, they just don't work.
Blackout03
Thanks for the replies guys. I guess I will switch out what appears to be the bad ballast with a a decent rikensport one I have from my other truck. I just need to determine if the ballasts are truely bad before contacting ddm. As for using the relay with the Rikensports in the s10, Why would they not work at all? Maybe when they are on I'll have to meter the leads to see if there is juice at all. If you end up having to order new HIDs than do yourself a favor and buy them from www.kryptonbulbs.com I have had their HIDs in my car and not had even a single misfire since install. They are a stellar product. I dont even have a relay harness.

Alot of times the relay harnesses that I use the plug for the light harness is wired wrong. Sometimes it'll be wired for 9004 when the pin outs are different for a 9007. Are they hi/low hids?
