Gumbo I would imagine quite a bit of weight... I am taking off the spare and hitch since I don't tow anything and taking the tail gate off fri before I make a few passes at the track..would imagine shaving a few tenths off

can you weigh them and post up?

here's what I found but I can't believe the hitch weighs less than the tailgate

There was a thread that had all the weights of everything in the rear end and everything you could take off to lise some weight. I for rid of my spare and hitch and spare cable assembly but threw a hidden hitch on.

dont cut the cable!

Take two floor jacks and support the tire

lower the cable all the way

take a flat screwdriver and a hamer and push the retainer into the hook. It looks like an upside down "T" with a little "safety" hook at the top. Push the saftey in, drop the "T" shaped part.

Lower floor jacks

remove tire from under truck

I had to have my truck flat bed home b/c of a flat and a stuck spare once....

Cut the line. put the spare in your bed. I have hear alot of people having this problem. Unless you get under there once in a while to grease it, it wont come down.

I carried my spare in the bed of my old Chevy years back then one day I had a flat tire...not a problem, grabbed the spare out of the bed and put it on....on the road again....for about 10 miles and then the spare blew! Spare tire was several years old but had never been used. The guy at the tire store said it was from sitting in the sun all the time, so you might want to consider a cover for the spare to protect if from the sun if you're going to throw it in the bed.
