In Dash Nav System Info

Recommended Posts

I could really use some good info on whats the the best, but affordable after market in dash nav system. Personally i would really care about it but lately my wife has really been asking me if i could possibly install one for mostly her use. She just wanted a portable Garmin unit but i don't want to go that route. I would like a in dash unit but searching on line just seems overwhelming on making a good desision.

I would want something that would still play CD's while the nav was operational. What would you guy's suggest or recommend , My truck is an 06 Z71 Silverado, What do some of you have and what's the good and bad about the unit you have. Thanks.

kenwood definatly has a way better nav. But on a side note if your going to have alot of bump in your truck to, I would recommend alpine because they use metal internal parts as kenwood only uses plastic ones. I noticed alot of kenwoods going bad with a big system in a vehicle. But this was also five years ago when I worked at car audio shop so it might be different now. Kenwood imo has a way sleeker look also. I also love the look of pioneer decks but have never had any experience with them.

I narrowed it down to kenwood vs pioneer when I bought mine. Kenwood uses Garmin for nav and as far as I am concerned, there is nothing better. I have a $1,000+ Pioneer nav unit and I use my $99 portable Garmin nav over the kenwood... or google maps on my phone. The pioneer nav just sucks. However, the reason I went with pioneer over Kenwood is their user interface. The pioneer was much more user friendly and easier to use.

there are a lot of them out there as far as kenwood and alpine go alpin is respectivly on top the the scales and some times you have to buy navi seperate and it gets pretty $$$$$ but your paying for the alpine name and its a good name. kenwood is on in my book over priced some tiems. clarion has some decent priced and like you sad you prob wont use it to much its for the wife then i would go that route just remember when you get a new toy for her and its in your truck you will start to play witrh it so i would just get one the 800 to 1000 dollor range and you wont have to buy a new one soon. just find one with the options you want and look them up on utube and good luck.
