super88
So when I bought my truck it had the exhaust already and the two mufflers coming out the back.. I still havent done anything to them, I was telling an old friend that i didnt like them. He told me that he could cut of the mufflers about 4-6 inches before the mufflers. that it would hide the exhaust and give it good sound. Then when it was time for emmesions that we could just clamp them back on? Is this a good idea?
silverado777
I'm sorry but that is the ghetto thing to do. Do it right and just buy a decent muffler, they are not that expensive and will sound alot better IMO.
8hnpSS
i had my exhaust cut right up at the cats for a year (i had no choice). man did it sound like trash and made the interior all drone
super88
Thanks guys! Which option would you guys prefer.. A local shop will charge me $350 to dump my exhaust under the truck and $450 to run them to the right side? That shop uses flowmaster? northernss
i dont think id run flowmaster (junk IMO)......i like the clean look of them hidden under the truck....if u just want mufflers and not a complete system id say magnaflow short mufflers. just do some research on youtube and see wat you like and go from there
super88
Thanks fellows! I think im just going to wait for that till summer. silverado777
Everyone has their own opinion on muffler. Don't worry about what everyone else thinks and get what sounds good to you since you're the one that has to listen to it all the time. Also don't buy it from a shop as they will rape you on the price. You can usually buy a good muffler off ebay for $50 - $100. I bought my flowmaster 44 from Loper's many moons ago for like $70 then took it down to a local muffler shop that charged me about $100 to weld it in a run 3'' pipe behind the tire in the stock location. I was also able to talk them into giving me an old tip that they had laying around. Polished it up and now it looks great.
super88
so dude its the tips that count the most??? So I could just buy some then like to run on the side then have a shop put them on???
silverado777
No its the muffler that counts the most. I was just saying the shop threw in a chrome tip for free. The tip has nothing to do with the sound.
The_aSSet
I beg to differ on the tip not mattering for sound, the tip is what resonates and directs the sound, think of like a trumpets bell, without the bell it wouldn't sound at all like it should. I didn't play an instrument lol. I'm not going to argue since in a weird way it makes sense.
The_aSSet
Train horns then lol they'd sound like shit without a bell on the end. But I agree the large portion of the sound comes from the muffler, but the tip is important too in its own way
