[email protected] Posted December 16, 2011 Report Posted December 16, 2011 ever see the chevrolet customer service member on here that comments if ur problems have been resolved and asking for the last 8 of ur vin number?? is this a legit thing or is it sketchy?? Quote
T-Bag Posted December 16, 2011 Report Posted December 16, 2011 (edited) I've said it's spam from the beginning but I don't wanna put my foot in my mouth without solid facts. Seems like a scam to get VIN #'s to me. There was one thread where a guy was having airbag issues or something and she posted up asking for last 8 of VIN. I questioned as to how by knowing the VIN would determine his issue lol. The way the GM computer system works is say you go for parts, they ask for last VIN 8 and boom there you are, there's your truck. If you bought through a GM dealer than boom there's your address, phone #, who financed you, etc. Those things could surely be used for identity and/or actual vehicle theft if in wrong hands. http://www.silverado...omer+%2Bservice http://www.silverado...stomer-service/ lol Edited December 16, 2011 by Bad Ass Silvy (see edit history) Quote
f1ss Posted December 17, 2011 Report Posted December 17, 2011 I have to say that is indeed a little sketchy, her name is Tricia I believe. I asked for their number to speak to them in person but I honestley cant remember if they gave a number out or not, I think they gave me an email. Unless they hand over a phone number that I can reverse phone search that comes up a legit GM phone number then I will believe it is indeed customer service. But my question is we have the steering clunk issue, front diffs crapping the bed left and right and trans with issues all over the place with stock setups, and what are they doing to help us, nothing yet honestly. I will stop my rant now because I still love this truck and wether or not its spam I have my own mechanic and he is the man, worked on my vehicle since day 1. But if their asking for VIN's that is sketchy imo. Sounds similar to the dude in NY that was taking VIN's off exotics and rare cars and sending the VIN's to Canada. I would only give my VIN out to only a couple members on this site that I have spoken to since I have joined and are extremely reputable to this site. Quote
canadianVRss Posted December 17, 2011 Report Posted December 17, 2011 I contacted her for info about our crappy front diffs and if GM did anything about it. She asked for my vin and if i lived in canada. I didnt give her my vin, just told her i lived in Canada. She said she deals with american customers and gave me the 1-800 number to GM canada. I called it and indeed it is GM canada's number. maybe shes just looking for American vin's Quote

Glad to see it is indeed a GM number, I take back what I said earlier. Quote
The_aSSet Posted December 17, 2011 Report Posted December 17, 2011 I'm sure anyone can hand out a phone number, all of her responses seem like a template with fill in the blanks. Quote
2001silverado364 Posted December 17, 2011 Report Posted December 17, 2011 Agreed, she doesn't help at all. Matter of fact, people back at GMT jump all over her every time she says something. Quote
ChevroletCustomerService Posted December 19, 2011 Report Posted December 19, 2011 I can understand the concern, but I can assure you that I am a legitimate member of the GM Social Media team. I am a Customer Service agent. As a member of this team, we are not able to provide technical assistance. Rather we are able to help in terms of customer assistance. This would include interacting with the customer in hopes that we can reach some kind of resolution together. We are able to set up cases as well as work with the dealerships in regards to issue. We are also able to look into information by VIN such as recalls, warranty, and build specifications. I am also able to look up bulletin information. While we are limited to what we can provide to the customer in regards to bulletins, I can share that information with the dealership to help get an issue resolved. In some cases, we are able to get in touch with our technical contacts for more assistance, but this is on a more case by case basis with things such as locating a part on the vehicle. As we are not mechanics ourselves, we try to avoid telling someone how to fix their vehicle. I am here to help and am not sure why the dealership would not recognize that. If any of you have any further concerns, please feel free to contact me. Tricia, Chevrolet Customer Service. Quote
