Need New Tune!

Recommended Posts

Hello, Im new to the forum. I have an 05 6.0 AWD with a turbo mounted upfront along with an inter-cooler pushing 5-8lbs. I have 2-1/2 " short tube headers and port n polished heads with 2.00+ valves. I also have a Diablo predator tuner (which for some reason is locked i cant use) everything else is stock.

With that said, The first tune that was done to it was with a diablo predator running with 5lbs and everything ran great. Later i decided to turn it up to 10lbs and got a tune for it but soon after the dyno tune I got the following codes: P0171, P0172, P0174, P0175. I never thought to check the "check engine" light when i first noticed, i thought it was normal because of the tune that the guy did and on top of that I blew 2 pistons and my tranny wasnt very happy, So i decided to turn the boost back down to 5lbs but kept the tune for 10lbs. In other words im running 5lbs on a tune for 10lbs that is not good! Now, I can easily grab my diablo which has the perfect tune for 5lbs BUT its locked. Another thing is that when I take the family camping to the mountains, the truck tends to jerk a bit it might be that its sooo out of tune that higher elevation affects it???

I hope i made sense on what the problems are. I would take the truck to get another dyno tune but here in L.A dyno tunes aren't all that cheap. I also want to be at 8lbs so unlocking the Diablo would not be all that great (because it has the tune for 5lbs) UNLESS i find a tuner out there that can unlock it and make a tune for the engine and tranny running with 8lbs using my Diablo predator?

p.s my cousin's 4door 5.9 Ram running with bolt ons (headers, intake mani, 4.56 gearing, PTB, CAI, SCT tune, E-fans) beat me by a fenders length while i was running with 5lbs! WTH!!!???

any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

If the diablo was not removed prior to the second tune being put on, then it will think it a different vehicle and therefore will not tune it a second time. the only way to get your diablo back is to either 1. send it back to dablo and for a fee the return it to stock or 2. the second tuner puts back the original tune, then you use the diablo to set the truck back to stock, then have the second tuner retune your truck, then use the diablo as normal... if it is not locked.

As for your tuning concerns, get a competent tuner to take care of you... you don't necessarily need a dyno tune.

Did you get the POexplodedtransmissionbecauseit'sStockandyourrunningboost code yet? The trans slipping could explain the surging/jerking issue. I'm no expert, but our trucks transmissions can barely take mild bolt ons stock, let alone boost. A built trans would be a good investment.

Granada Hills, alright cool I'll text chpspecial. would you know if he tunes via dyno? or chipset/handheld?

He uses EFI live and knows his shit. dyno is a tool, it can help but a good tuner will be good on the street. I like to think the street tuning gives you better drive-ability b/c you are tuning in the exact conditions.

I would get your handheld unlocked and then you could use it too run two tunes, but I bet if you had a good tune in it you would just rock it till you want more power or break some junk
