schmidty77
The start of this thread has to do with topics stemming from the MY SS vs F-150HD post originally started by jwest in the picture post section of this forem. A heated discussion has been started there about torque or lack their of in the 6.0 SS engine. Check it out those of you who have your SS. I've been waiting for a response from someone who has their truck now. Is the SS gutless on an uphill grade or if you punch it will she drop a gear and keep on pullin? I only ask as a concerned SS buyer. I eagerly await many a response.
johnsen
i pull a pretty steep hill everyday on the way to work. my old 94 chevy used to slow about 10 miles an hour going up, just to give a refrance on how steep it is. my ss pulls the hill, with the ac on, and doesn't slow 1 mile an hour, it kicks down a gear, but keeps on trucking. dcairns
I haven't taken my SS up any real hills yet. But on some familer overpass "hills", the SS is smoothly accelerating, at half throttle, in places where my S-10 with the 4.3 L was struggling to gain a bit of speed while floored. So don't worry. If it isn't enough for ya, just pay a visit to Dr. Whipple
shawn_butler
I have noticed it both in the SS I took for a test drive and the one I bought. At times you jump on it and the tranny doesn't down shift, but sometimes it does. The one saleman told me that it learns your driving habits and sets the shift points accordingly. I have had my truck two weeks and it still fails to kick down about 50% of the time. I have never had a vehicle do this before.
zippy
that's part of it's new great drive by wire system. one big thing you may notice with the downshifts is how it reacts to whether you just floor it or stab it to the floor. also when you think you have it floored, push a bit more as the pedal on the mat is reached at around 90% of throttle according to the tech 2 and has to be pushed hard for the other 10%. as for the lack of torque, going up a hill is going to be more of an issue of mid to upper rpm power (where it goes on a downshift) which the 6.0 has enough of. the 6.0 LQ9 has enough torque in the lower rpm, but could use some more cubes or boost to haul around the excessive weight they felt it needed as well as turning two differentials when one does it just fine. I might be more anxious than you for you to put one on. I bet it will really haul ass w/ one of those on. BAD ARSE!
dcairns
Whipple still has not got their hands on an SS yet to check out the computer calibration to make sure it is the same as the Escalade. So I either have to wait, or drive 4 hours to Fresno and let Whipple use my SS for a Guinea pig for a couple of days. I am pretty anxious to get the supercharger, but I don't know if I can talk the wife into a vacation to beautiful downtown Fresno. On the other hand, having Whipple do the install, would give me one stop shopping if I had a problem. Oh well, after all the waiting just to get my truck, I should be pretty good at it by now

Ultimate
the SS is a hauler, I havent driven the SS but I have I have driven regular silverados.. and while yes its no sports truck to 60 the engine's torque curve is almost as flat as this line ______________________ So dont worry the SS has torque to spare. I have never had a vehicle do this before. i have noticed the exact same thing with mine. i have about 1600 miles on mine and i haven,t really noticed it getting any better. if the computer does pick up on how you drive, and adjusts for that, i should give it some more time because i babied it for the first 1000 miles.
