Viscous coupling wear

Recommended Posts

So I just had to replace my two back tires (305-45-22) due to broken belts. My front two tires have less than half tread left on them. Will the difference in tire size damage the AWD transfercase? Thanks in advance!!

Come on fellas. I know somebody knows. I measured them and the fronts are a quarter of an inch shorter than the back. Is this too much difference in height? I just don't want to kill my transfer case.

Why would you shave new tires? Just buy two new ones, you should buy all new tires at the same time anyways(if you can)this way when u go to rotate you'll have equal tread wear seeing as how your awd...keep the two shitty ones up front for track days, usually on these trucks one side is more prone to spinning more than the others depending on the track.

Ok, since I just bought a set of 22 inch replicas I went ahead and got two more new tires. Problem solved. But has anyone ever had their tires shaved so that they're all the exact same size? I can't find a shop near me that even knows what shaving is.

The slight difference in height in the tires should not make that much of a diference. Most trucks can even run diferent but close gear ratios and still not have problems. I think the % or tolerance in the diference is like 2-3%.
