MID12sSSS
So i know that each main cap has a tab and each bearing has a tab to prevent you from installing them backwards. But main caps 1 and 5 (front and back), have a tab on each side of the bearing insert. Does this mean these bearings can go either way? Blown 346
all the pointed sides go towards the trans end and the trans end cap points forwards. You should have the notches in the bearings line up with the block. See pics here. http://www.ls1truck.com/forums/lsx-truck-conversions/30324-lq9-main-bearing-cap-order.html
MID12sSSS
Yeah. Thanks. I know the caps themselves and their orientation, it's the bearings into the caps. Caps 1 and 5 have two notches for the bearings to align, while the others only have one so they aren't installed backwards. So I was curious if 1 and 5 bearings can face either way. Blown 346
Some people have had to have them face opposite directions and some poeple havent been able to. Not sure whay this is, but thats just from some reading i came across. I guess your best bet to be sure is to call a engine builder. They will tell you with no problem what way they need to face. If they wont thats a builder i wouldnt trust.

LSR Mike
The full LQ9 manual is in the Engine Tech and Modification section of the board. it "should" answer your question, and possibly many others!
