OleDave
Hi all, New to the site. Bought my 06 SS about a month ago. Silver, 85K, dark grey interior. It is stock with the exception of a cold air kit. It has stainless exhaust on it all the way back, (I don't know if that is stock or not as this is the first SS I've been around), but the exhaust doesn't look factory. Really like the truck. Runs and drives great, everything works like it is supposed to. It has a little piston noise in it but as I read about the LQ9 engine, it sounds like it is common issue. When I first bought it it was only getting about 15mpg so I wasn't real pleased with that. Replaced plugs and wires but that didn't do much at all so I cleaned the injectors in my ultrasonic tank. That did it. I have since taken it on a 4,000 mile trip from KC to San Diego and back. Lots of mountains between here and SD, almost all the highway miles on the speed control and running about 75mph. Averaged 18.5 mpg for the entire trip. Really runs sweet. All in all, great truck. Last PU I had was a 95 Z71. What a difference. Attached is a picture of the SS and also on the way home I just had to make a stop in Winslow Arizona and stand on a corner for a while. Anybody that doesn't get that just think about the Eagles songs. Dave

Downeast Johnny
Welcome, Dave. Congratulations on finding your truck. 10 points for having your own ultrasonic tank to clean your injectors. What did you use for a cleaning medium? OleDave
Welcome, Dave. Congratulations on finding your truck. 10 points for having your own ultrasonic tank to clean your injectors. What did you use for a cleaning medium? Downeast Johnny, I've retired 3 times but I always have to have something going. About 2 years ago I decided I should be in the injector cleaning business so I got setup to do that. Got the process worked out and started to get decent business going when I got an offer to work with another division of a company I worked with several years ago. (I'm a maintenance management consultant and reliability engineer). So the injector business had to go on a back burner as long as this gig lasts. All that said, it isn't as simple as just running them through the ultrasonic tank with the right solution, (I use a water based carburetor cleaner). They have to be firing while submerged during the cleaning process. I also checked flow and spray pattern and replaced all the consumables. There wasn't that much difference in the flow on my injectors, just a few percent; the big difference was spray pattern. Dirty they shot a stream, clean it is a good easily atomized spray pattern.
