Camcyde21
Hey guys, I don't own an ss but i was wondering if someone could help me out. I have a 04 silverado with stock headunit and no xm nor onstar. I was curious if I could add those two antennas to have them. Has anyone done this before? I know i have to add the mirror with the onstar button but im guessing i have to run new wiring to support xm and onstar?
Blown 346
Yes you need the wiring harness for both. Not sure if the truck would have the existing harness the new one would connect to.
Camcyde21
Do you know what the harness PN is? Does anyone have a link or anything to know how exactly to this? I'm also using the two antennas instead of the shark fin.
Blown 346
I have no idea, If you go thru the dealer they will need the last 8 of your vin. Not sure exactly where to find the part number instead of searching online.
JF-03-SS
If you can add XM and Onstar to a truck with-out it from the factory (not sure) you could get the newer antenna that does both XM and onstar and have one antenna. Blown 346
It can be done, anything can, but it all depends on how much money and work you want to put into it. Any manufacturer when they build vehicles will still add harness even if the the vehicle didnt come with a certain option, as it would cost them to much money to re configure certain harnesses for vehicles without a certain option. Example. The silverado ss comes with the GM factory fog light harness even though the trucks never had foglights. Its easier to put the harness in then have to redo the whole wiring system for some options that arent there. basically, you will have to remove the headliner and look for the factory harness. More than likely it will taped to the roof or off to the side.
Camcyde21
How difficult is it to remove the headliner? I'm guessing there's a DIY somewhere for it?
Camcyde21
Well i figured out how to take the headliner off and this was all the wiring i saw. I'm gonna guess i don't have the XM/Onstar harness. There wasn't any wiring running up the pillar on the passenger side
