There won't be any performance gain in it that's noticable but imo a cooler engine runs better. To a degree. No pun intended. I'm sure someone knows a little more on this. This is exactly what its benefit is. It doesn't necessarily cause the engine to always run cooler so much as it open as a lower temperature to circulate coolant through the radiator which does help it stay lower temp wise.
