Well your motor runs cooler. Lol but that was the obvious answer. There won't be any performance gain in it that's noticable but imo a cooler engine runs better. To a degree. No pun intended.

 

I'm sure someone knows a little more on this.

I'm not 100% sure but from what i've read/researched it lets the engine run cooler which allows for tuning to safely pull more timing.

This is exactly what its benefit is. It doesn't necessarily cause the engine to always run cooler so much as it open as a lower temperature to circulate coolant through the radiator which does help it stay lower temp wise.
