Fireman31
I am not a Federal employee, I work in local government, and we saw layoffs back on January 1. The town has a $26 million deficit, and thought that it would be wise to cut from our Public Safety department to try and save money. Our Harbor Police division, gone....Ordinance Inspectors, gone....our only sign inspector, gone....3 of our Park Rangers, gone.....2 of our dispatchers, gone......3 of our public safety guards, gone......our Central Complaint division, gone.......all to the sum of 27 people being laid off. Not to mention, my divisions overtime budget was cut in half, and our Hazmat teams budget was cut by 80%, which is almost gone already. It's sad, nothing like cutting from the divisions that make money for the town, stupid.

Where the heck is the logic in these layoffs and job eliminations? Who the heck thinks that this is a good idea?
Indymonkey
Things have to be cut, their is no question about it. Until we get our debt under control we are going to continue to fail. Being a roofing contractor that does the occasional government job its very easy to see how we ended up in this mess. The lack of accountability and spending money like its someone else is a huge problem. Jobs that would cost 30 to 40% less in the private sector. I can only guess that its like that in every other aspect of Government spending too. Dont even get me started on the socialist programs....ugh. RebelOne
I'm in the military so we are getting hit hard. A lot of us are not allowed to re-enlist. I'm safe for right now since I'm already 12 years in.

Who the heck thinks that this is a good idea? Their play on this was that they call it "duplication of service' which is total crap. Does the county PD have time/manpower to patrol our parks/marinas/town facilities? No. You are going to have a free-for-all with the marinas and idiots launching boats in the wrong spots at the wrong times, amongst other things like a reduction of BWI patrols. Security at town hall and other facilities will be questionable now. Residential housing inspections and other ordinance related complaints will take longer to address. I work in the Fire Marshals office, our work load has more than doubled, we had trouble keeping up before all this happened, now we are working out of title doing ordinance inspector work too, along with our Code Enforcement Investigators.
