SSoCal
I have two questions regarding stroking our engines to 408. First, what cranks and rods does everyone recommend? I was thinking Callies/Eagle/Crower and Eagle/Crower/Manley. Second, how much hp would I be looking at if I kept the cr at 10:1 or even raised it slightly? I dont know if I should lower it in prep for FI or keep it high.. Answers and opinions always appreciated.
TurbochargedBerserker
I went Callies crank, Callies rods, Diamond pistons. I think Ben did the same. If you plan on going FI, I wouldn't go 10:1. It will be too limiting down the road. I'd run a 9:1. The thing on the crank and rods is that you might be able to save a few hundred dollars now, but run the risk of paying for it later if you go with Eagle. Too many open questions to guess at HP -- heads, cam, FI, etc.

Eagle seems to let the customer due the R&D work for them. The first bunch wasn't so great. They may have the problems ironed out, but you get what you pay for. Callies, or if you want to drop the coin, Luanti.

SSoCal
btw, which callies crank did you use? Magnum Plus/X-S, Dragonslayer, Racemaster? And for the rods, the only ones I see mentioned on the site are for LS1 rods. Is this what you used? And finally, how much did you end up spend on parts and labor. thanks in advance
BigTex
I bought an Eagle crank, Eagle rods, and Diamond pistons. I haven't built the motor yet. I haven't heard anything bad about Eagles LS1 cranks. They had a minor issue with the first few shipped, but nothing in the last 6 months.
BenKey
I would not have any heartache with buying Eagle, I don't think. I got a deal on my Callies rotating assy. At the time, I could have gotten Callies or Lunati for the same price. So, although I haven't had to price them in a while, not sure what the diffs are btwn Lunati and Callies - I would think a couple of hundred at the most. Eagle has driven the prices for Callies/Lunati down some in order to compete.

Sorry, but I spend a little more for piece of mind. Building a motor, just to completely tear it back down because of some issues doesn't sound like money in the bank. After a year or more of no reports, I would consider, but not yet.
