2005 Elec Fan Assembly Fit on 03 - 04 SSS?

Now that the 2005 SSSs come with electric fans, I was wondering if the assembly will fit our 2004 and 2003 models. I always wondered why the Escalade got the electric fans, but Chevy's top of the line pickup did not get them with the same engine. Surely, electric fans offer efficiency and power gains.

I know that Flex-A-Lite makes a dual fan assembly that should fit our truck. However, I had used an aftermarket "Black Magic" 15" electric fan in the past and found that they were not as reliable as the factory fan setups. They worked great for a while, but did not last as long (and were slightly more varied about the thermostat point).

Anyone looked into it?

I ended up putting an 05' assembly into my truck. I already had the controls for it with my flex a lites, but a motor just blew so I bought the factory 05' ones. Fit perfect to out radiators. There is clearances for out tranny cooler lines, and there are just two bolts that hold it to the radiator.

It sounds bad ass too. With my controls when I turn the truck off the fans turn off and it sounds like a jet engine winding down, haha  I love it.

They definately draws more than the flex a lites though it drags the volt meter down another notch.

If you can get a set I recommend it, it has a better fan guarge too than the flex a lites which has nothing.

Thanks for the info.

I assumed that the factory setup would be better overall quality than the FlexALites, that I have used on previous cars. You say that you bought the 2005 controls also? Is that a simple add-on T-stat control wired to DC or does it splice into the factory harness or computer somehow? Ideally, it would plug into an existing connector if GM included the harness necessary before the fans were included in the design. Do you have the factory part numbers for the parts you used?

Thanks again. :seeya:

89023368 fan motors (requires 2)

89023366 RH fan blade

89023365 shroud

89023367 LH fan blade

88987983 fan motor connectors (electric connection)

11516931 shroud bolts

with the connectors you're looking around 350-375 shipped and without the connectors around 300 if you bought them from a dealer willing to work with ya. the gmpartsdirect.com might be able to get you a good deal also if shipping is less than a grand.

Thanks Zippy  You are the man. I assume that this does not include the T-stat controller?

Even with the 20% shipping cost, GM Parts Direct usually blows my local dealers away in cost.

Would the connectors and bolts also be a quantity 2 or does that part number come with 2?

Thanks

the connectors will require 2 as will the bolts.

as for the harness, i'd recomend calling bryan for that. there may be someone on here making some if needed. they aren't cheap since the damn connectors are so expensive. on the other hand they are considerably better than trusting the ever failing F.A.L. powered system. using the factory connectors at the motors also insure's that there isn't going to be any water or other corrosive materials around the plug. fans are something that you always want to have working. the harness is certainly not a place to cheap out...
