steve summers
While the SS is in the shop getting the electrical issues worked out I am driving an '05 Silverado LS courtesy of GM. I've got a few interesting observations after clocking over 500 miles in the LS. 1) GM is crazy for putting the bench seat in the SS. This LS has the cloth bench in it with no console and I hate it. 2) The 4.8L motor has no guts on the bottom, but runs OK on the mid/top. I drove it to a Customer site on some winding 2 lane roads yesterday. In the SS I can pass at will without concerns. In the LS I didn't pass anyone. The MPG on the 4.8 is pretty darn good though. 3) It seems as though there is electronic control of the start position on the key switch, there is a little delay when you try to roll it over, then you hear the starter disengage before you let off. Just to confirm this I tried to engage the starter when the motor was running, it would not. 4) This one has electric fans. HOLY CRAP! there is so much room in front of the motor! I wonder if the dealer will notice them missing when I return it? Driving the LS made me realize what a high end truck the SS is, it is hard to believe the LS comes from the same manufacturer. ctrow
If you can get them together for long enough, just switch out your mechanical fan with the electrics and then give the LS back to them. They might not notice for awhile. Oh, wait, did I say that out loud?

zippy
the 4.8 sure doesn't have much torque, but it does rev well. the fans are also very nice.
Xero
yea....do i know that all too well....damn 4.8! there is no replacement for displacement
rdss
The 4.8 can be easily fixed with a super charger!! Maybe Vince's Powerdyne can blow hard enough to help out a little 4.8.
m396 #00-011
Giving up 70 some cubic inches makes a difference.

steve summers
no comment on the brakes what did you think of the new brakes? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> They are not as responsive as my '03, I had heard they went back to drums on the back? Hamur
Couple things people. There is a safety program that won't allow you to "start" the motor when it is already running. Yes for 2005 they went to drum brakes on the rear.
Xero
just a heads up, today inb the local paper (plain dealer) here in cleveland there was an article in the driving section that said that the 05 silverado extended cabs will be getting a new flywheel alternator/starter and that cylinder shut down thing, to get better mpg. it also has stuff on whats to come and what chages are for what models up to like 2008
d_a_n_payne
A 4.8 smoked me over and over one time A 150 shot is a pretty good replacent for displacement
CraigW
Then again if you had a 150 shot it would even be close.
