99Silver5.3
Ive got a LQ4 im gonna throw in my truck. Heads are being milled as I post. And for the life of me I cannot decide on a cam. I dont want anything street/strip nasty. Just fun to drive and makes good power. And sounds good with the cut-out open.. Ive been looking at Thunders 220 and 224. I even looked at a few VHP cams, the 047 to be specific. I am changing my converter to a TCI SF3000. Along with ditching the stock 60E. Anybody have advice on what cam would suit this?? Since mostly 6.0's around here I figured this would be the site to post this on.
BenKey
How much are you milling your heads and what CR are you shooting for? Are you looking to spray this thing?

Are you looking to spray this thing? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I dont think im gonna spray it. They are shaving off between .3 and .4. They are also gonna do some polishing and blend the bowls into the seats. Im hoping for 10.0-10.2:1cr. From what I have been discussing with the tech he said it is attainable with the stock gasket thickness. Im not sure I feel to good about running a thinner gasket. By the way, have any of you guys had LQ4 heads milled?
BenKey
I don't know if anyone on here has had their stock heads milled, or not. Our heads are the same as yours. An LQ4 and LQ9 motor differs only in it's pistons, which changes the CR. The heads are identical.

marc_w
You probably came across my rantings and ravings. ;) I ran these on basically stock motors with my own amateur tuning. I ran TR220 112. Lots of topend power, tame down low. "Linear" powerband. Loved to be revved and driven hard. Lost power in the highway cruising range - 2K and below. The 047 here. Very fun cam, perfect on the street, always ready go 'go'. Very broad powerband. After finally getting the truck to the track, I can see why people like bigger (220ish) cams. I wish I got the TR220 out there before I pulled it. ...but for the amount I drive (it looks like 27,000 miles a year), I need the truck to be perfectly streetable. I know the Comp 212/218 was pretty popular here - haven't heard much about it lately. There are some other guys here running some custom stuff in the 214-216/218-220 range, I beleive. Some bigger.
