REMOTE START AND ALARM

I too was in the market for a remote start, but once I heard what the prices were for an aftermarket alarm these days, I just said forget it.

I wonder if it would be possible to hook up a remote start to our existing factory alarm system? I remember someone telling me that it could not be done. Maybe one of our resident inside dealer people can give us the skinny on that one?

Hopefully, people who respond can tell us how much, which model, and whether or not the factory alarm had to be disconnected.

I'll be watching this thread, thanks for posting it up!

I have the 2-way Remote start only from CompuStar. Works good, I love the two-way, and depending on the outside temp, it will turn the heated seats on.

Compustar interfaces/replaces the factory keyless remote, but you have to use the 2-way remote for the system.

I don't know of any system that will work with the factory remote. I'm sure it could be done, but I haven't seen one.

I think they run around $400 for the 2-way remote systems. The GM's need an extra cost bypass and some other little things.

I have the viper 791XV, 2way. Works well, remote start, heated seats, window roll up and down, and good range for the remote.

I know there is a company that makes a remote start unit for our trucks to use the factory remotes. I will have to look it up, because i was looking to do that awhile back before i got a viper alarm. I remember the place that i was gonna have it installed wanted 350.00 installed. To start the truck you pushed lock and unlock at the same time. The only problem is the range on the factory remotes isn't too great. But............a cheaper route. I had a hard time finding anyone who wanted to try to interface the aftermarket remote start unit with our trucks because there are so many computer on board.
