KoTToN
I was just at the california auto show and was checking out the new c6 and pontiac gto's. I noticed they 6.0l they have (ls2 i think) puts out about 45 more hp than us. Is it the same engine tuned diff or is it an all together diff type of engine? Im pretty newbie when it comes to this so dont laugh too much

Xero
yea but arnt the engine mounts for all the 4.8's the same? (not really the right post to ask) cause i know a gm at a gm dealer, and he said if i want he can hook me up with an new LS2 engine for like 3k bucks. and i asked him if it would slide right in and he said that the black are basically the same and any V8 that gm makes is able to be dropped right into any car that already has a V8. correct me if im wrong tho. BigTex
The LS2 is running a larger camshaft which accounts for a good bit of the power difference. The LS2 also has LS6 heads, which have a smaller comustion chamber than our LQ9 heads. That gives the LS2 a 10.9:1 compression ratio to our 10:1. Thats a premium gas only motor at that CR. Its an aluminum block with a 4" standard bore. It has the revisions made to allow the upcoming displacement on demand system GM is going to use. That caused some of the sensors to be relocated. Cam specs look to be 204/211 .525 116lsa. (01 LS6 cam)
styleandspeed
Actually the 01 LS6 cam is a 207/217dur. I found those specs off of one of your old posts on LS1 tech, then went to gmparts direct, and they had the specs listed there too
BigTex
I lied. Back when the 01 Z06 was first released, there was some mis-information about the cam specs. When the updated 405hp Z06 came out, GM made a few comments on the new cam specs. They gave the specs for both models at that time. 204/211 is the correct duration. Its on a 116lsa with 2* retard ground in.
