Orion231
Hey guys, great website! I feel bad, because I registered and do not own a SS yet. But I do own a 1987 Buick Grand National that I take to the track and cars shows alot. I have 10 grand of cash saved up and I want to buy a new truck. I thought about a new Ford FX4, a Nissan Titan... but the Chevrolet Silverado SS just puts a nice spark in my step when I think about it. I want a good sporty truck, and eventually it will tow my GN around in an enclosed trailer. But I take very good care of my vehicles and would really enjoy a truck with some nads. I want to order an all black 05. Do you guys have any suggestions on what to order with them? The only thing that scares me off is the MSRP... But it's not like I cannot afford it. I have no bills. So let me know what you guys think about your SS's, pros and cons. And if you have any input on the options let me know, I'd like to get a good truck. Thanks! Orion231
Also, how is the ride, and feel of the truck? Can I pop on a K&N, and what mods are out for the truck?
ctrow
The sky is the limit for these trucks for the most part. Pretty much anything you can get motor/transmission wise for a corvette/camaro, you can get for the SS. Also, don't worry about MSRP, worry about purchase price. I'd say 33-34K for a loaded SS would be a good price including rebates. I never towed anything with mine but others have said good things about towing with it. I'm a big fan of the 87' GN too. That's probably what I'll get maybe next year for my next toy. Add some GNX parts and some 18" Simmons wheels. Lower it and have some fun cruising. Something similiar to these Turbo Twins Oh, welcome to the site as well.
2drTahoe
A black SS would look sweet pulling a GN There's $3000 off 2005 Silverados, so that'll help with the MSRP You can skip the leather bucket seats and save some $$$ too If you like the style of the SS wheel, I would go with the chrome ones A sunroof will be available on the 2005 SSs

Orion231
Thanks for the replys. I was looking at GMs website, playing around with the ordering and options. The Sunroof option sounds nice, and I would definatley have to get the crome wheels and leather seats. I'm a big fan of leather. My GN interior was restored to original stitching and colors, except it's done in a Katskin Leather Kit. It is VERY nice. The only GNs that ever came with leather were the 84s and 85s with the Lear Seagler seats. I do want to mod the truck, maybe a chip and exhaust. Surely a K&N. How is the sound system in these things? I'm not asking for a massive system, but I want good quality with some output. XM will be a must. However I do not like the On Star system. It's a waste of money to me. I'm sure it's helpful, but I have a cell phone and I can land nav like a SOB. For you guys that do have leather, how are the seats in comparison to the cloth seats? Any opinions on that. Anyone have the qudra-steer? GMs website said the 05s come with AWD and Quadra Steer. As well as 4 wheel disc brakes. I can't wait. I downloaded the start up and rev clip, they do sound very nice. But I wish they had a dual exhaust. Thanks again for the replies and the help.
ctrow
I was happy with the Bose system to be honest. You can definitely put something in there that has more punch but for a factory radio it's not bad. Just take your favorite CD and go listen to one at the dealership. Even if they don't have an SS in stock they should have one with the Bose system. On the leather subject, I think they are the way to go. This was my first vehicle to have leather and it won't be my last for sure. It's GM cow hide but some good leather conditioner will help that. My best advice is on the price is get an 04' with a few thousand miles on it. It'll still be new enough but you won't take that huge hit when you drive off the lot. Also, post some GN pics in your garage area. I'd like to see it.
2drTahoe
Anyone have the qudra-steer? GMs website said the 05s come with AWD and Quadra Steer.<{POST_SNAPBACK}> No Quadrasteer on the SS. Could be your first mod The 2004 Denali Ext Cab has quadrasteer and a better interior but less power The 2005 Denali Crew Cab has SS power and the sunroof but no Quadrasteer
Orion231
When I get back to the states, I will be sure to post the new pics I have of the GN. All I have for now is some old ass pictures taken when I first got the car. I also have some pictures from Afghanistan here if you guys wanna check em out. http://photos.yahoo.com/Orion328/ I have new pictures at home of the GN and it's new interior and some pics of the motor. It's an Alcohol Injected car now. The Alky kits work great with bigger turbos. You can run 93 octane and a race chip on the street. I run about 24 pounds of boost with 93 octance, and denatured alcohol. It sprays with a MAP switch at 12 PSI boost. Very nice little kit and has a box for on the fly tuning. I coulda SWORE I saw somewhere that the 05 SS's would have quadra-steer as an option. But I'm the newbie here, so I was most likely day dreaming. The reason I want another driver is because, since April 1st, 2000 I have driven the GN daily, never had an accident. Then in january some **** backed into the front clip, and drove off. I came out one night to get some things from the car, and I was decimated...I had a sickening feeling. The grill was smashed in, the bumper is bent, the hodd is ok, but the fenders have waves in them... It was too close to my deployment to get it fixed so I parked the car, covered it, and well...she is waiting. So, I have alot of work to do when I get home. I really want a SS. Plus I can get a good enclosed trailer to store the car and prevent any further acts of jackass-ness. Oh well. I'll make sure to check out a dealer before I order one. Do you guys have any other tips on buying one? I know money talks... So I'm sure I can get close to an invoice price with such a big downpayment. IF I decide to drop all 10k. I may not, the GN could use a face lift. Poor poor baby...
SSilverad03
Welcome to the site Orion. I hope you can finish your tour without a hitch. I am in the Air Force so I know what you are going through over there. Sorry to hear about the GN but sometimes things like that happen for a reason. Well if you do decide to get an SS you will not be disappointed. I have had mine for 18 months now and I love it. People will tell you that its underpowered and it is, but that's what makes it fun . Also I would get an 04 in Arrival Blue simply because it's a good looking color and the rarest. Either way you go the SS is definately the ultimate truck in my opinion. AlanR
Orion - If you redeploy back through Ramstein Germany let me know and we can hook up and I will let you check out my SS. I also looked at the Ford and Toyota, but there really is no comparison in my book when you consider the possibilities of these trucks. I think they are awesome stock, and you will turn a lot more heads pulling your GN in this than any other truck out there for under 35K.
Orion231
Alan, thanks man, on our deployment here, we stopped in Ramstein for 7 hours. My cousin is a C-17 Pilot. MAJ Patrick Weeks, he is stationed at Charleston, SC. But he is flying out of Germany this month. Anyways, I'll take your word for it. If I do get a chance, I will definatley let you know when I will be in ur area....if I am there. I'm just concerned about getting nailed at the dealer... AND if I should get an 03,04, or 05. I want an 05...but may have to take advantage of the 04's price...
