TurbochargedBerserker
Hey Zippy, Is there some squirrelly (programmatic or otherwise) with the 65E and first gear? My truck shifts out of 1st whenever it wants to unless I'm at WOT or downshift into first so that the resulting RPM in first is > 4100 rpm. It also absolutely will not downshift into first until 4100 rpm... I know my tranny is hurtin' so could this be some safemode measure due to slippage? It's the most bizarre thing I've ever seen. zippy
you're saying that you can't hold first at part throttle correct?
SSminneapolis
whats the part number on that one zippy?
TurbochargedBerserker
you're saying that you can't hold first at part throttle correct? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yep. Can't hold first unless the RPMs are > 4100 at part throttle and can't cause a downshift into first with the shift lever unless the RPMs are > 4100 at part throttle. zippy
unfortunatly, this is programmed into the pcm as far as i recall. i've ran into this issue a few times, but haven't worked much at a fix for it. my buddies tahoe does the same thing. his is more of a problem doing a burnout. as soon as the rpm comes up it gets into boost and shifts unless you are w.o.t. i've also experienced this on a few new vehicles. i'm sure there is a way to program it out, but you may need the vcm suite pro to do that..... That sucks I did some messing on the way to work this am. HPT 1.5 has a new scanner that lets you force commands into the PCM (for stuff like timing, fuel, and tranny). You can turn off the shift solenoids... Here's what I did: set the truck in 1st gear programmatically and with the shifter turned off the 1->2 solenoid The truck cruised up to the point that it normally forces second gear and went into neutral... It would not come out of neutral until I turned on the solenoid again. Neat, huh?
zippy
the problem must be in the abuse valve then. this is where i was looking at before to fix it, but haven't had the ambition to go in there and do anything about it.
TurbochargedBerserker
I think I have abuse mode "disabled" in HPT (which could be only an interface disabling as has happened in the past). I will poke it some more and see what I can come up with.
zippy
the abuse valve in the trans i believe is where the problem is though. i haven't taken the time yet to see if the computer shifts it or not though.

deezel
Turbo, have you tried changing the 2-1 down shift settings for part throttle in the normal mode shift table? If you set these up around 30-35mph above say 60%tps it might allow part throttle burnouts, etc. to stay in first gear.... good luck
