catdaddy300
I have a chance to pick up a 4L80 for about $550. Its stock with about 60000 miles on it. Should I just pull the trigger and pick it up?
Diamondss
Depends on if it's a 4x4 transmission, if I found a deal like that and it was 4x4 I'd jump on it
catdaddy300
So there is a difference between a 2wd and a potential awd one?
allballz57
The 2wd and 4wd have different tail shafts, but you can get a 4wd tail shaft for a 2wd if needed, sounds like a good price, just smell the fluid before you pay, burnt clutches smell bad. Put a transgo HD2 kit in it and it will be bulletproof
1BAD2K
If it's 2wd, might not be worth it. Pretty much the very first part all the way at the back is the output shaft. You'll need to swap that for the 4wd unit. If you don't know how to disassemble and put the trans back together, you'll pretty much be paying for a rebuild I'd you have to have a shop do it. catdaddy300
Ok thanks for the info guys! What are some vehicle that already have one? Also what kind of identification I use to tell if its a 4l80 and 4x4.
03SSBoy
it should be stamped on the housing saying its a 4l80e. gm 2500 trucks came with them
catdaddy300
Ok that makes it simple enough. What about the the tail shaft what am looking for.
1BAD2K
Another easy way to tell is the bottom of the bell housing has a cut out for an inspection cover, whereas the 60e is solid the whole way around.
