rico750sxi
I've had my truck now since July of 2003 and have put all of 3700 mles on it. It has become my take out on nice days toy. That is not a problem for me, I want to use it that way. However, the more it sits, the more I think I could have a more appropriate toy sitting in the garage filling the space. I have a friend who just picked up an '04 GTO for a great price and he let me drive it. It was a nice car and banging gears again was a lot of fun. Overall, I was pretty impressed with the car. Very nice interior, comfortable seats, and it ran pretty good. SO I've been considering trading the SS in on an '04 GTO. I know the '05's have 400HP but there are a lot of '04's around here and they are getting really cheap. Looking for some opinions. Thanks.
SSilverad03
I wouldn't blame you one bit. I had an 04 that I had bought for the wife and then she divorced me and took the car. Ever since then I have had an itch for the Goat. It is an awsome car. I was at SEMA this week and seen and 05 for the first time. If you could afford it I would take the 05. They split the exhaust in the rear, added an optional hood scoop and other goodies besides the LS2.
rico750sxi
I'm just thinking I have a better chance coming out even or ahead of the game on an '04. Otherwise it would be '05 for sure.
SSilverad03
I'm on the same page as you. I just have a hard time giving up the whole truck thing. I love the versatility.
rico750sxi
Me too, I know I would miss my truck a lot. Plus, everytime I take my truck out I get a ton of compliments on it. If it only had a six speed and no AWD!!
SSilverad03
I agree. My problem is I'm outnumbered over here by my family. My dad has a '02 TA/WS6 and he just ordered a C6. My sister drives a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 8, her husband drives a Subaru WRX. Besides the ex drives an '04 I gotta get the '05 so I can smoke her sorry @$$. Same thing happened to the 01' and 02' Z06 Corvette's. As far as a weekend toy, the SSS is not. Get something more appropriate.
Banone
If your looking for a weekend toy and are concerned about the depreciation of whatever you choose to buy, if I were you, I'd look hard for a decent deal on a close to original 60's or 70's muscle car. It would lose little value and most likely go up. There are a lot of great websites for almost any muscle cars out there (much like this site), plus you can get unbelieveable insurance rates through places like hagerty on classic cars. I have a '77 trans am that I pay $200 a year on and it's insured for $25,000 and no limit on mileage, although its only got 3,800 original. So, instead of laying out $30,000 on a car that will be worth half that in a few years, spend it on a sweet classic that won't ever go out of style. By the way, here's my investment / weekend driver. I picked it up for half of what it's worth and always gets looks when ever I take it out.

quickmedic1
I have always loved Trans Ams. Whenever I am at the TA Nats in Dayton I always manage to find myself drooling over a Bandit car thought. One like yours Banone.
marc_w
I don't blame you... If I had a SS as a toy vehicle... Well, I wouldn't! I'd have a early muscle car, LS1 GTO or LS1 Camaro. ;)
ctrow
For a toy, my vote is for something a little older. For me it's an 87' Buick GN or a 50's Shoebox. The list never ends really.
haynss
I'd do a swap for a C6 Yeah i have to agree, as fun as the SSS is, its no weekend car
Dylan06SS
I'm fighting the same urge... ever since my dad picked up his C6 the SS has lost some of its appeal. I almost never use it for towing/hauling... pretty much its just for driving to work and cruising around and w/ the mileage I'm getting I'd almost break even every month w/ the vette. I don't have any kids and probably don't plan on having any for awhile...... now convincing the wife this is a good idea.... thats another story
rico750sxi
Well I do use mine as a truck once in a while, more so now that we are building our house. But that isn't something a utility trailer and my work car can't solve. I guess the best way to describe my SS is that it just isn't my everyday vehicle so it sits a lot. Every once in a while we do take our three kids somewhere in the truck though. Couldn't do that in a GTO or Vette. But we have two other cars that could serve that purpose. As you can see I'm on the fence on this one still. Oh, I would love to do a swap for a C6 but that isn't an option for me right now.
