Ghostrider
The vette is one week old today. Yesterday, 11/06/2004, I took the vette on its first little trip. I put 225 miles on the odo (total mileage on return 302 miles). Approximately 175 miles of this was freeway, the rest was winding roads in the mountains (big hills) of south-central Tennessee. Impressions. Power: I only turned on the cruise twice and both times for less than 2 miles, just to check it’s function. I’m still in break in so I drove “manually” on the freeway, varied my speed and watched the instruments closely. With the automatic, I was very impressed with the power availability across the power band. I had a very short burst to 95 mph and the rest of the time kept it below 80. Braking: Never got on them hard, but under firm braking they respond very well. More to follow. Handling: On the windy parts, I never pushed the g-meter beyond 0.73, but at that, it was solid, controlled and never made any odd sounds or tire noise. I know that previous vehicles I’ve owned would have swapped ends at that. I never turned off either active handling or traction control. Ride: Holy S&(t, Batman. I’ve been in Lincolns and Caddys that don’t ride this smoothly. Economy. Mileage yesterday was 23.9 mpg. WOW! Stereo: I find the Bose system to be fine for my needs. But then again, I had over 20 years of things going “bang” very near my head, so… ;) The CDs I’ve copied on my PC played fine with the exception of 1 disk that also did not play correctly in the BMW or the Lightning, so I guess I’ll just pitch it. (grin) Gee-Whiz factors: I did some personalization and the fact that I now don’t have to take anything out of my pocket to get in and drive the car is just “cool”. I can’t think of any other way to describe that. I am absolutely “ga-ga” over the fact the when I shut the door, everything readjusts to fit my driving position and when I get out everything readjusts to let me exit more easily. While the rood line is “almost” too low, I managed to adjust the seats so that it’s just “snug”, not claustrophobic, and I’m very pleased with that. Summary: Great car, best “overall” vehicle I’ve owned that’s not intended to carry cargo. I realize I haven’t even tapped into it’s performance side, but I’m still breaking it in. The engineering is superb and my only "harp" is that I'm seeing a considerable amount of "orange peel" in the paint. I'm going to chat with the dealer about that.... Are vettes the first to have one of those? Neat toy. BTW is the camera broke? Weren't there any "scenic area" stops on the windy roads?
Dylan06SS
The H.U.D. is just awesome... everytime I take my dads out for a spin I contemplate never coming back... I'd leave him my truck of course! Theres nothing quite like doing 130 (IN 5th GEAR!!! ) on the freeway and still having more room and a whole gear more! Ghostrider
ledfoot - perhaps we can talk the wife into letting me use it to take you for a ride... 2drTahoe - The gage is VERY cool. I don't know if it's the first, but it's just another "first" for me... Honestly, I had the camera with me and could have had some wonderful shots, but in the heat of the moment, I simply forgot about it... Got home, took my stuff out and there was the camera, so... I'll have to do better next time.. dylanvonkleist - The HUD is ultra-ccol ! I'm liking it. I'm an old fart and was on active duty when the F-16 first came into service. At that time it didn't have a "name" and everyone called it the "electric jet"... The name just seems to fit it.... Hope I'm not boring you guys with this stuff, just having some fun... Dylan06SS
I'm sure you've noticed that the fit and finish on it is p e r f e c t! I'm amazed how well the car is put together... its really built like a brick-shit-house. Feels more solid and put together than the SS, which is saying alot for a car as light and small as it is. m396 #00-011
Orange peel, , it's best to just overlook it. Very typical on Vette's. The dealer will only make it worse. If you can't live with it, seriously, just trade it. Your only other option is expensive, professional wetsand..
Ghostrider
dylanvonkleist - yes, it's VERY well put together, more so than anything else I've driven... No odd noises, fit and finish seem to be perfect.. It's just a lot smarter than I am... m396 #00-011 = I've heard that before... I more want to hear what the dealer has to say and use that to evaluate honesty and willingness to work with me on problems than to actually have them fix it. Both my Lightnings had a degree of orange peel so it's not so much the presence of it, but how the dealer will handle it that I'm interested in....
