IAT sensor relocated

Recommended Posts

I finished my IAT relocation this weekend. I ended up putting it in the intake tube right in front of the TB. The guys at the local dealership (where I went for the pigtail) advised against putting it in the manifold as I wouldn't get "a clean air reading" and since I didn't have a spare manifold if they were right, I just did the tube thing.

Its pretty cool so far. My meth kit can drop my IAT in a hurry... About 10 degrees in a few seconds (and with more optmization tuning, much more I'd think). Sitting in the drive way hitting the test button, I got the IAT a few degrees under ambient (of course no boost, but still...)

The electrical part was super easy. I cut the IAT wires in the stock harness and used two butt connectors to attach the new pigtail ($23 from dealership) and plugged it in. I also took the time to remove the MAF altogether and redo the MAF wiring in case I plug it back in. To make tuning easier with a MAF, I installed a plug on the sender wire (yellow one) so in the future I could just unplug the sender.

I also bought a stock grommet for a 96 V8 from Chevy and used that in the air tube with some silicon around the grommet base and covering the grommet / sensor seal. Works like a champ.

The worst part was shifting all my intake tubes around to accomodate the MAF going on the garage shelf...
