Body cladding

I am having my driver, passenger and 3rd and 4th door cladding replaced tomorrow morning.

Getting the dealer to do it under warranty was like pulling teeth.

The dealer I bought mine at only sold 2 SS's.

One of them being mine. I think if they had sold more they would have more people complaining. Not just me. I have seen the other SS around town and the cladding is worse! (I know it's the other one from the same dealer because it had this horrid looking pin stripe that was done by the dealer) I chose mine because they didn't add anything to it :D )

The panels do not come painted and they had to paint mine.

Not a flame against the dealer, since they did agree the "extreme warpage" was the reason for replacement.

My only concern is that it might not be the cladding itself.

I don't see Denali's or Esclades with the same problem.

I think it's the way that it is mounted to the truck.

If you look at the bottom of the doors it's a shame that GM would actually consider mounting them with two bolts shoved into the plastic. It stresses the panel making it wrinkle/warp.

If they chose to mount the cladding this way they should have made the plastic thicker so it would prevent or reduce the warping when torqueing down the bolts.

I also think that some sort of support behind in between the metal door skin and the plastic cladding could prevent this.

I have had two detail shops ask if the truck was in a wreck, the cladding is that bad.

If anyone has a better idea of how to mount them, let me know.

I can tell the dealer. I was trying to find a parts diagram for a Denali or Escalade to see if the parts could be used.

That's odd. I didn't have a problem with the dealer here. I didn't even buy my truck from them. They weren't even able to sell the one they had. They had to run it through the auction.

The panel they put on mine was prepainted. It took two days to get it from GM. It went on the day they received it.

I didn't know that's the way they mounted them. Maybe someone can figure out a nice fix.
