  1. http://www.silveradoss.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=30825 Check out that post big tool has the 6.0L with 4.10 gears. He was getting around 14.5 or so. Then he got bigger tires and lift and it went down. Then he got a tune and it came back up. He has a few posts around about his gas miliage.
  2. Well come full circle gone from max towing package 6.0 to 5.3 to 6.0 with 3.73, all the way back to just going with the 4.10s with the max towing package. Bigtool on here is getting 14.5 15 mpg average with his truck with the 6.0 and 4.10s so think i will just live with the little worse gas miliage. Also was a little concerned the ride might not be as good but apparently its almost identical. i'm guessing yours should improve since it just got broken in although looks like the 3.73 does get better. But i'm interested in the extra payload with the max towing package, would like to be able to occasionally use a deck to take a couple sleds or quads out and it will be pretty close to being legal with the 7,200 gvw just really confusing to figure out the curb weight casue they show the lowest curb weight on there site possible for max payloads. According to the motor trend artical the slt is 200lb more then the regular dash version so that will bring it down. Truck and deck is 1400lb so plus gas in truck, gear, and two people will probably be overweight (probably be around 1800 1900) but think it can handle it for the odd trip, will throw in some airbags to help it out a bit. Thinking the payload will be around 1600 1700 so its close....
  3. Well now i'm back to leaning towards just getting the Full deal 6.0L. Your numbers aren't bad and i wouldn't mind the extra payload capacity. Might put a snowmobile deck on it and with the 2 sleds and deck your looking at 1,400lb plus gas in the truck and people and gear so pretty tight for a half ton but i think that it could handle it. With the max towing package the payload should be pretty close to what i would need. And sounds like the ride is pretty similar good to know thanks.
  4. Nice truck really like the new rims. Any other plans for it? Hey just one more question for yah. Just wondering if you noticed any harsher ride going with the Max towing package compared to a regular 5.3L truck. From what i understand the shocks are all the same but it has a little stiffer springs to up the payload capacity a bit. I would think they would be similar just loved the way the regular one rides.
  5. yeah i'll be looking for a cover when they come out but you can do that to both its more the difference i'm interested in. 17.2 mpg for the 6.0 thats really good numbers makes me think that the 3.73 gearing would help along with the mods you did. Looks like a tune is a good thing to look into more hp and better gas mileage. Being up in Alberta dont know how many tuners there would be around here, but got to be some. There is also those tuner chips you can buy dont know how well they work though probably not as good as a custom tune. thanks for all the numbers guys
  6. Oh yeah 13.7 average hey that sounds a little better then the 4.10s. A lot depends on how you drive it as well lots of variables but still gives you an idea thanks.
  7. Yeah i have a pioneer deck in my current truck along with new speakers and subs. The mp3 capability is nice keeps the number of cds that you need down when you can put over 100 songs on them. However lately i'v been into the xm radio i'v had for about 6 months. Satalite radios pretty good nice cause you can listen to whatever you want and throw in some comedy and sports . I love how the new gms have the xm radio built right in. And yeah as far the gas mileage i think there getting about the same as the old ones because they all have more hp which = more gas....expecially if you have a heavy foot.
  8. Btw you'll appreciate the looks a lot more once you take a closer look at it the interior fit and finish are great. Then once you drive it gaurantee you'll want one. The ride is smoother then my dads 06 yukon and like i said earlier all most no road or wind noise. But everyone is entitled to there own opionion for sure not everyone likes the new looks i think it will grow on people. When i first saw it in the mags i didn't think it looked all that great either but now seeing it in person i think it actually looks pretty good. Locking tailgate is nice touch as well. Sound systems have sure improved a lot to. My old stock system was terrible in my 98 and even some of the newer 02s or so i don tthink are all that great. But the upgraded one isn't bad actually bose speakers and built in sub. And it even has an ipod plug in and mp3 capability finally everyones starting to get better sound systems.
  9. Yeah i will be doing some towning with it but nothing really too heavy or too often. Dads got some nice light trailers then i can borrow for hauling quad and sleds around. But his 06 yukon danali pulls them around pretty easy so i dont think that the 6.0 with the 3.73 gearing would struggle too much with them. If anyones in the market for a sled trailer these are awesome to pull http://www.floeintl.com/snowmobile_trailer...enclosures.html they dont have much for head room but there way lighter then a full size enclosed trailer and more aerodynamic. Good for when the roads get icy or if you dont have the big 1 ton duramax to pull it with. Does anyone have the 3.73 gearing with there 6.0L? Guessing most people go with the 4.10s though...
  10. No the vmax is a 6.0L with the displacement on demand. The 6.2L is only availiable with the danali version it comes with the 6 speed tranny but no DOD and i believe that premium gas is recomended for the 6.2L. And i'm guessing that chevy will come out with some sort of ss version with the 6.2L in it. Yeah intead of getting the max towing package with the 4.10 gearing im thinking of going with the z71 package so i can get the 3.73 gearing. It should improve the gas miliage a bit having the 3.73 gearing. I dont really need the extra towing capacity and would rather have the smoother ride(the NT package has a little heavier duty springs so guessing it would be a little stiffer although from what i'v read it is still pretty good ride). So its between the 4X4 5.3 slt and the 4X4 6.0L slt z71 package with the 3.73 gearing. From what i'v found so far looks like about 20% better fuel economy on the 5.3. But an extra 50hp and 40lb of torque is allways good right
  11. I'm looking into buying a new pickup and took a test drive with the GM 4WD 5.3L extended cab truck and really liked it. Smoothest riding pickup i'v ever been. Also super quiet allmost no road or wind noise. Interior is top notch as well. I'm considering getting the Vortex Max Package with the 6.0L but from what i'v read about the old 6.0 gas mileage is not great. They claim 15/19 for the 6.0 and 16/20 for the 5.3. However from what i'v read in magaizes and internet 6.0 looks more like rougly 12 13 and the 5.3 16 17 or so. Just wondering for anyone who has these new pickups what kind of gas miliage there getting so far thanks. -Cory
