  1. I totally remember that show thats what made me say that. You know overall they did a good job but it sounded like a diesel it didnt have that big @$$ cam sound that i love.

The Disel Sound was kinda cool though. Image at a stop light next to a viper or something. And as you leave him at the light all he can hear is a disel and some black smoke. The viper would be WTF just happened. LOL

  2. well if you love your ss and your so hell bent on having a diesel why not just throw it in your ss :jester: be kinda odd but id like to see the pictures of that

I just rememberd there was a show on TV where they dropped a Duramax and Allison in a Chevelle SS. It had custom turbo, intake, exhaust, tune, injectors, and fuel pump. They had it run against a Lambo Gilardo and a Viper on the 1/4 and it hosed them both. It was cool to watch. I don't remmber the e/t tho sorry. Been quite a while ago.

I wanna say it was on pimp my ride of all the shows in the world to have it on. Look it up its worth the watch!!!

  3. I have an 06 GMC Disel with the 6 speed and absolutely love it. With a CAI, Exhaust, Injectors, and a Edge Chip. It makes a ton of power and towing a trailer with a 68 camaro on it, flat ground, 75mph I was getting average 19mpg. I have gotten up to 26mpg at 75mph on the freeway on a 200mi run. They are a lot of fun to drive and to feel 8,000lb launch hard like the camaro or the ss is amazing. It's a different kind of power that is fun to play with.

I like turning the chip up at a stop light, some kid in a focus with his window down near the exhaust. Well i'm sure you know the rest. Nothing like eating coal. LOL

  4. The gt-67 will only handle 600hp if you get the .96AR exhaust housing. but at 5-6psi you dont need it the .81 will do just fine. infact it will handle up to about 8-9psi with out creating excessive back pressure and heat. also in you only plan on making 5-6psi you dont need the 5-15psi electric boost controler. save your money there. and if it is on a stock block, the 0-5psi electric boost controler will be just fine for later down the road. With the 7# wastegate spring and 5# electric boost controler I see 12# total and that should be more than enough for you. My future plans are to upgrade the exhaust housing to the .96 and put a 9# wastegate spring, so that I can run a total of 14-15# when ever I need it.

edit, I forgot to mention but dont have your oil return line dump to the top of the oil cap, you can do what I did and tap the passanger side valve cover to the right of the fill neck or do what others do and tap the oil pan.

Can you e-mail me some pics sometime of how you did your return line. Sounds like the better way to go.

I was planning on running 5-6psi to 10-12psi and being able to switch it with the greddy boost controller. That was always my idea from the start and it was something sts said would work fine. Any thoughts?

  5. Thanks guys for all the insider info. I will talk to Spoolin and CHPspecial and see what they reccomend.

Here is the kit w/options I am looking at.

    Base Kit

    Boost Gauge & AEM Wideband

    5-6psi Wastgate Spring

    50mm Standard BOV

    44# Injectors

    MSD Booster Pump

GT67 Turbo Upgrade (says good for up to 600rwhp) which should be enough for now. LOL j/k

    Intercooler w/larger A/R Turbine Housing

Dual Stage electronic boost controller 5-15psi

So far it looks like the kit covers everything you guys reccomend. Except for the tranny mods.

How hard is it todo the tranny mods yourself? My dad has a friend that retired and sold his shop so maybe he can give me a hand.

  6. Probably for when it blows from the turbo.

STS turbos can make good power, but they are more tempermental than a radix kit etc. They build excellent top end power. I would recommend to get the turbo upgrade and intercooler if you want big gains. If you have never installed anything like this before, you will want some help from a professional. You will also need larger fuel injectors, STS has had a small habit in the past of saying you dont need injectors with their kit...that might have changed. Also, realize everything they tell you is trying to get the sale. You have done right by asking around here. There are also some used kits for sale on performancetrucks.net

Who will do your tuning? I know most of would recommend dyno tuning rather than mail order tuning.

Lastly, what are your performance goals overall? low 13's? 12's? 11's? Do you want to mess with methanol injection?

I live in HOT ASS nor cal so a intercooler is a must anyways. I was going for injectors and a turbo upgrade. As far as ET Goals I dont have any really as I doubt we will see the track much. 12's would be nice I suppose. Anything more might be too much for a daily driver in a small town. LOL j/k

They were going to send the tune on a predator tuner and I was going to take it to their STS dealer about 30min from me for some fine tuning on the dyno. I talked to their dealer but it is 2500 more for them to install in instead of me. I'm not woried about the install.

Ideas, Reccomendations, etc are always welcome. Thanks for the input.

  7. Been in some serious talks with the guys over at STS about a kit from my truck. But thought I would see if anyone else had views on the kit before I made the purchase.

I rode in a 02 5.3L lifted with 38" and we chased and caught a Porsche Cayan on the freeway yesterday with this beast. I am truly impressed with the kit.

Also I dont know if I can trust my local tranny shops. Who do you guys reccomend?

  8. Guys, if you see a set of leather SS seats for sale or have some, let me know as I'd like to make the swap before next spring.

    Thanks,

    Andrew

You can get custom leather covers for your seats. You just pull off the cloth and slide some leather covers over them. I know a few shops if you cant find any.
