  1. Welcome. In all honesty, I wouldn't worry about the 5.7. You can usually find a 6.0 for around the same price, or a lot of times, even less. When the LS1 finally let go in my Trans Am, I was strapped for cash, so I picked up a 5.3 for $250. I figured with it being that cheap, it would get me back on the road until I could save for something better. It's proven to be a great little engine for next to nothing, so I'll probably keep it and go turbo. If you're planning on boosting, the 4.8/5.3 is a good option, because they can take a good bit of abuse and stay fairly reliable. And even if you do blow it up, they're a dime a dozen. Good luck with the build.

  2. AMSOIL Signature Series with an AMSOIL EA filter. If you ever want to try it, I can ship it to you for around the same price, or a little cheaper than you can get from a local retailer.

  3. I can almost guarantee it's your blower resistor. Look for it up under the glove compartment. The same thing happened on both my old SSS and my TBSS. It hasn't happened yet on my current truck, but I'm expecting it to eventually.

Here is the video (I think) I used to show how to replace it..

When you replace it, be sure and check the harness that plugs into the resistor too, because they will often burn up too. The good news, is you can get both the resistor and the pigtail harness together for dirt cheap on ebay.

  4. Sorry, I was away all weekend and just got back today. I sent you a pm. I've heard some people say they used the additive with the AMSOIL, but PERSONALLY, I never have in either of the SS's I've had, or in my Trans AM. Additionally, none of the people I've sold to in the past have come back telling me that they needed it. It's $6-$7 more on an order to ship it along with the fluid, so I give the option and if the individual feels that it's worth it to have it and not need it, I'll order it too. I went ahead and got it when I did my first one, and just never used it. It'll let you know with some minor chatter if it will be needed.

  5. 75W90 in the front and rear. I use AMSOIL Severe Gear in all my vehicles. The actual capacities are 4.2pt in the rear and 3pt in the front (7.2pt or 3.6qt), so you would need 4qt total. Also, the transfer case takes 4.4pt, or 2.2qt of ATF

Here are links to the products I use.

If you're interested, and don't know a local dealer, shoot me a message and I'll quote you. I've got dealer status and should be able to ship it to you for the same, or a little less than if you would buy it local retail.
