  1. on the e-diff trucks, the Auto mode locks in the front diff, but does not engage the transfer case unless the rear wheels slip. it happens at virtually all speeds but on decel or neutral throttle only. no noise when turning. it doesn't make any noise when in 2 hi and it makes a normal gear-whine noise when in 4 hi. haven't noticed the front diff noise, but it may just be that i can't hear it over the engaged transfer case. this symptom only presents itself when in auto 4 on decel and neutral throttle. thanks for the input though guys... i appreciate it. i figured someone might have a tow rig or something as a daily driver with all the trucks i see extensively modified around here. hopefully you guys caught that article in (i think) hot rod last month about the LQ9 build they did and pulled 751 horses out of it with a s/c, heads, cams, LT headers, and a wee bit of wiper fluid motor was absolutely ridiculous... and i wondered for a moment if the s/c would require hood modifications in my truck.
  2. after i went cross-eyed reading old posts and just about smashed my head off about 5 different GM service counters, i figured i'd turn to the REAL experts: i'm getting a mild grinding/ whining noise out of my 07 1500HD in auto 4wd mode on deceleration. when i let off the throttle the front end starts making the noise. i'm wondering if this is normal and it's just the front differential being locked in (the HD has lockers front and rear supposedly, according to my build sheet), or if there's something gone amiss that i need to address with the dealer. i have the extended warranty and i've talked to the techs, but they apparently have next to no experience with diagnosing problems before they're at a catastrophic failure. i guess GM only trains techs to R & R now rather than execute preventative maintenance... heaven knows that might actually take some though or something. main reason i'm asking is that my truck gets used as a truck... i tow and haul a lot with this thing and i don't want to end up stranded with a grenaded front diff or transfer case while i'm several hours from home, especially since i don't know anyone with a bigger truck that'll pull mine except my workaholic neighbor. well, now that i'm done with my rant, i'll pass the conch to anyone who may have any input... you folks likely have a whole lot more wrench time under these bad boys than i have, so any insight you all can provide would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance from both me and The Duke (my truck) and have a good one!
  3. buddy of mine has one. loves it, except for the fact that the motor only drinks the good stuff and he has no back seat, or very much foul weather capability. his interior is leather with suede inserts. i like it... it rides like a sports car and it'll pull a house, but i've got a sh!t-ton more room in the back seat of my crew cab 1500 HD (cuz i've actually got one)... ...but for just about exactly the same mileage (12.5 city, 16 highway), i'll keep my 4x4 '07 1500 HD crew cab and my lower insurance premuim.
  4. as we approach the anniversary of the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month of the Year of Our Lord nineteen hundred and eighteen, i'd like to say THANK YOU to all my fellow veterans past, present, and future. it takes a special breed of individual to cowboy up and make that sacrifice to protect something no more tangible than air but as real as the blood we bled, the sweat we sweat, and the tears we cried. i've officially separated honorably from 9 years in the Army Reserve, of which i spent literally six years and nine months wearing a uniform full time so i'm now even more thankful for those that stand between my family and the wolves at the gate. to those currently serving, we civilian veterans may no longer don the uniform, but we're just on this side of the gates of hell, and we've got your back. God Bless you all and God Bless the United States of America. -mike pozzi staff sergeant 303rd Tactical Psychological Operations Company Operations Joint Forge 01-02, Iraqi Freedom zero, Iraqi Freedom 06-08 et al RIP, brothers: SGT Thomas A Vandling Jr 1982-2007 KIA 1 JAN 07 SGT Adam L Knox 1985-2006 KIA 17 SEP 06 Godspeed, gentlemen...
  5. can't say i'm innocent of this one... but i will say this: my thinking is that the only reason it is not legal is because the government hasn't figured out yet how to control the production, import, and distribution of it and tax the crap out of it... my two cents...
  6. i think the JL dual 10 sub box only fits classic crew cabs... at least from the description, that's what i gather. it says it includes two JL10W0 subs... but no amp or wiring, so i'm guessing that's what'll getcha for the rest of the big bucks. seems to me most conventional amps now are running about a buck every two amps, and digital amps are a buck an amp... at least, last time i checked into electronics very seriously that's how it was... and that was about 4 years ago when i put a huge stonkin' system in my 97 ram SS/T i think the extended cab trucks are probably better off with one under the seat due to the way the seat bottom folds up as opposed to how the crew cab truck seats fold down more like SUV seats. again, no personal experience here so i'm speculating based on what i can imagine here and what i recall from a buddy of mine's extended cab truck. maybe i'll pop down by the dealer here in the next day or so and check out the SSS they have on the lot now and see what i can figure from that.
  7. that JL stealthbox with 2 10" subs for behind the seat runs $799 on crutchfield just thought i'd throw that out there... i'm still drooling on it though :-)
  8. hopefully i'm sticking this in the right place here... i see that the VHO and SS seem to be equipped with the 4L60... i'm honestly not sure what the nomenclatural designation of my truck would be, but it's a 2007 silverado classic 1500HD with the 6.0L, 4x4, and 4 speed auto. i was under the impression that since the truck is perched on the 02-05 (or so i'm told) 3/4 ton frame and the build sheet shows the heavy-duty 4-speed tranny (no specific model given) that it was the 4L80 unit. any clarification from those wiser than i? thanks! -mike
  9. been looking for something like this since i got my truck. the bose speakers are great from highs thru the low-mids, but there's not quite that heart-pounding, arrhythmia-inducing bass like i'm used to from my dodge. i think i'm gonna have to pick one of these up. finally found something to do to my otherwise-perfect truck. thanks!
