  1. im going to pull mine apart monday night, most likely just order parts individually from parts store and dealer
  2. I've done a lot of rebuilds on rear axles and front solid axles, this sounds the same. Just never had one that splits apart like these. From the sounds of mine i would say its the carrier bearings that took a dump, but im replacing the rest as well. Thanks for info, i will get some pics of mine when i get it apart
  3. Obviously the front axle on these trucks has its fair share of bearing problems, and mine is on its way out. Checked the fluid and it looked like liquid anti-seize, was nasty. Luckily there is no gear whine or anything, so im hoping the gearset is OK and just replace all the bearings. My question is that as often as this comes up on here, you never see any real info on it or pics 1.What bearings go out? carrier? pinion? axle? all of them? 2. What are you guys paying for the reman ones? 3. For anyone that has completely disassembled theirs, are any special tools required? one i think i may need is for the carrier bearing adjustment, but i imagine like most special tools their is a way around it Hopefully someone can shoot me some info, but regardless in the near future i will be splitting mine open and replacing all the bearings, checking everything else. Will get some pics and info while doing it
  4. sounds like it is your guys temp blend door actuators. There is also a service bulletin out for this problem, the doors are overextending themselves, have to reflash the PCM. I just put a recirculate actuator in a 05, its definitely a job, have to remove seats, center console, the whole dash, just to get to it. For anyone that does it just make notes of where stuff goes and pay close attention to what your doing, will be fine. doesnt take any special tools or anything like that.
  5. the evap vent valves on these trucks really blows, i constantly replace them on GM trucks. Usually the 455 code is from the valve not sealing when it closes, they came out with a revised setup for it, theres a service bulletin about it. By the way, the valve only costs our shop $25, its not an expensive part at all. Just my $.02
  6. i took my 03 SS in for the extended warranty since my tach took a dump, and im now on week 7 of waiting for the replacement to come in. The dealer keeps saying that its the suppliers problem. They claim its taking so long since its an SS and is different with the white face gauges. How long is everyone waiting on their clusters? I called GMs customer care number today and they are lighting a fire under peoples asses now, they are handling it well. If you have a problem with a dealer, call GM and they will slap these dealers around to get shit handled. Its worth the phone call. What really pissed me off was i took in a 04 Yukon Denali for the exact same problem for my work 2 weeks ago to the same dealer, the cluster was there for it in 2 days. WTF?
  7. i go in phases, like new stuff, right now its Honey Brown, for awhile it was Blue Moon, before that was Miller Chill best stuff i ever had was in a german restaurant in Waynoka,OK. Was called Optimator. Best beer i ever had and was definitely stronger then your regular beer. You would drink it like regular beer and feel fine, but then when you stand up to leave, watch out. Ive been trying to find it here at home in NE Ohio with no luck. They also had a drink called the Seperator, said it seperates the men from the boys, my brother tried one and he was gone. Was some seriously strong stuff. Funny thing is this place wasnt a bar or anything, its a little german restaurant with maybe 6 tables in a city who's population might be 1000. Best food ever too.
  8. anyone ever use one of these? http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Ite...&tab=review
  9. i could put the XM box in and play it through the radio, but i like having the external unit that i can take out and put in my other truck when im driving it, only 1 subscription then. Also i set my XM unit to record so when i listen to talk like Opie and Anthony i can fast forward through commercials or boring shit, kind of like a DVR for your TV. Im going to connect the unit using an auxilary input adapter. How i hooked it up to my other truck it wouldnt fit up by the map lights either. Too big. I would be using the mount that comes with it that uses the heavy duty two sided tape, there just isnt a flat surface to stick the mount to. The mounts foot is about 1.5 in by 1.5 in how does everyone mount their IPods? generally be the same this is the XM unit i want to use http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Ite...10315&tp=85
  10. bought an external XM unit like i have in my other truck, problem im having is i have no idea where to mount it. On my two brothers silverados, i put the mount in the space above the airbag switch and it worked out very well, but i dont want to do that on mine since the SS badge is there. Does anyone have pics of where/how they mounted their xm/sirius units, IPod, etc? even if it meant buying a special mount i dont mind, i just like having a clean look the truck is an 03 extended cab with leather seats and the center console
  11. saw the new GMC Sierra Denali at the auto show, 6.2 over 400 HP with the 6L90E trans, very nice. Its only like $3000 more then regular Sierra half ton loaded. I dont see any reason why Chevy wouldnt make the SS out of that platform, its what they did before. Maybe the engine will be turned up a little and get it close to the 450HP mark
  12. that would make sense. They do seem overkill for a stock setup. They look quite HD
  13. sounds good, i already have all that stuff from doing rear axles, just never done one on a front IFS axle with how the case spilts apart and all. Thanks
  14. from what ive read, in the transgo kit there are selectable washers that designate how hard of a shift you want? i want the extra strength and faster shifts, but i dont want it rediculously hard. Im not racing or anything, i just want the tranny beefed up for towing and to get rid of the sloppy stock shifts
