My mechanic has a Joe Gibbs 2004 Extended Cab Black truck with 78k miles on it. The truck had work done to it ($2400) after the owner dropped the truck in drive at a high RPM (racing at a stop light) and broke something in the transmission (output shaft I believe). The guy can't pay for it or hasn't come to get it so it looks like the shop is going to end up sending away for a abandoned vehicle title. It looks like the guy scratched the entire passenger side against a guard rail and it will need four new tires... thats just what I can see looking at it from the outside... other than that it is a nice truck... I would buy it if it was a steal... he says it is worth 14-18k and he wants 11-12k... I am not so sure that is a good price... What would you pay for it?

I have the atr scropions and the flat spot issue drives me nuts... I would avoid them at all costs..

Yes I am going to be doing this soon. Are there any other parts I should be looking to replace at 75k? I have only done brakes and tires as of now! (well and the little accumultor piston and #5 on my ac unit!)

I drove on it a few hundred miles and it got bad! any left turns sounded horrible and got so bad I didn't want to drive it anymore.... took it to a shop and when they jacked the truck up the wheel moved a good 1/2" or more. New hub from Advance for $145.00 and all is good! Thank you for your help guys!

Can someone describe to me the front diff problem? Can I check the CV joint? Am I good to drive a few hundred miles on it this weekend... ?

I have an 03 SSS with 75k miles and recently there has been a noise coming from the right front (sounds like that anyway). I had a mechanic drive it and he heard it but could not diagnose. He removed the wheel and checked for rubbing, etc. and found nothing. It is only when I am going at 25mph+ and turn the wheel to the left. The degree I have to turn to hear the noise is about 5-10 so it happens whenever I make a slight left (anything more than a lane change). It sounds like a rubbing/knocking/bumping and is getting progressively worse. Any help/suggestions?

i had a cracked accumulator piston in my transmission that made it do something similar. Take it to a good tranny guy and have him look at it... could be a simple $400.00 fix. Of course, I have no clue what I am talking about... lol

I am not up tight or up set about it. I would call myself stupid if I scratched my truck... ? Also this thread is great, I never knew I could get the parts painted already... wow! I am going to start looking for part numbers and price them tomorrow as an option... might be cheaper than the time and effort to paint all three pieces.. not to mention a better end result.. ? On another note... I got pulled over and ticketed for tint on my front windows today... that I am a little upset about... lol

Anyone have a link to the painted cladding/molding or do I need to call the dealer? The work he did is awesome, and he is a nice guy. I would actually recommend going there and will probably take my vans there if he fixes my truck. My main concern is that the truck is 100%... I would have a major problem if you could tell there was paint work done on this truck... How difficult is it to remove those body kit pieces? Would the paint match better than a body shop spraying them in place? The scratch is to the plastic.. but only small sections of the scratch.

I have a 2003 SSS that has never had any paintwork done on it. It had a cracked accumulator piston and I had a transmission shop put a shift kit in it and replace the piston with a metal one. Transmission is great but when I picked it up the owner took me out and showed me where he scratched my truck!!!!!! So he said no problem he will take care of it and he already had the body shop guy look at it. The body shop guy is supposed to try and wet sand/buff it out. I can see at the end of teh scratches where it has removed paint so I am very skeptical that this will work. On the other hand, I dont want to paint three panels of my truck for fear of the color not matching. The guy is a nice guy and he only charged me $450 for a shift kit, fluid, filter, accumulator piston and corvette servo installation. I paid the guy and got my truck back. I kinda fell like an idiot for paying him. I guess here are my options: - see if they can buff the scratch out, which wont be 100% and he will probably have to give me a partial refund - get my money back and have my friends repair shop take care of it - buy replacement parts that are painted to put back on the truck? The parts that are scratched are the SS body kit parts on the rear pass door, the piece behind it, and the piece on the bed of the truck in front of the wheel. Any suggestions?

It was a cracked accumulator piston. I upgraded to an aluminum one, corvette servo and a transgo shift kit! Thanks everyone!

I need lower head lights and tail lights. My truck is an 03 SSS. The PO of my truck drilled holes in time to install some lights. The holes have made the lights dirty and moisture gets in them. $100.00 was how much someone paid for these four lights in a parting out recently here and I would be happy to pay that. Thank you!

Also, regarding tuning... do I just tell the tuner what modifications I have and they, from experience, map the PCM to my mods? Would I be better off having someone dyno tune it? http://dtmmotorsport.net/index.html - these guys are close to me and have a 4wd dyno... would this be better than having wheatley or zippy tune it? The transmission guy also said that you couldn't "tune" the transmission very much, is that true? If the transmission needs internal work, do you recommend I buy and ship a built FLT/? transmission or have the guy at Cottonman do the work??

Hello Mr P. I just went outside and checked the fluid. It is clean and red colored. Does not smell burnt to me at all. I was actually surprised at how clean it looked.... I had Jiffy Lube change it about 25k-35k miles ago... I also added a bottle of transmission additive that was supposed to help fix this type of thing... but it did nothing. My transmission runs at 150 degrees at all times... I think I saw it up to the mark past that once pulling a trailer... Like I said before... most of these miles have been highway miles... I hope I am not too late... Thank you guys for your help. I am thrilled to have people who know what the hell they are talking about helping me. The transmission guy said that my truck has the 2nd gear Corvette servo installed from the factory... I told him from what I have been reading that it is a good upgrade to do... he said that it is in there already... he hasn't seen the truck yet... is he right??

I called a transmission shop that did a van for me a few years back (Cottonman). I talked to the guy, he said that he would drop the pan and at that point it would be obvious if we needed to do major transmission work. If not, he said that he could inspect for damage and install a shift kit for me for $375.00 parts and labor with new fluid and filter.... he also said that it was a TransGo shift kit and that he puts them into every transmission he builds. He also said he was very familiar with this particular transmission... Sound good?

and yes, I have driven it 54k in two years... 90% highway miles...

it only does it from first to second at 1/2 or maybe even more like 3/4 to WOT... could something else make a shudder that I should be checking? This is my first truck, automatic and 4wd... so I am looking for any guidance... I had the dealer fix the speedometer (just made it before 70k) and i asked him to check it out... he said that it definately needed to be taken to the transmission guy to look at but I am not so convinced... change my transfer case fluid? help?
