Pretty cool that the dealer let you pick your loaner. When i took my truck for warranty work they stuck me with a peice of crap oldsmobile achieva.
Calling the Oldsmobile Achieva crap might be ofensive to crap.

I must have replaced 10 million IPC's for that exact reason. The EBay repair seems like a good deal, providing he uses quality parts. To have the stealership do it you probably paying for an hour or close to it just for labor to R&R the cluster. It can be done in less than 10 min. I remember the price on the refurbished IPC's was crazy expensive just from the re manufacturer.
My speedo has issues too. It stops at about 170 kph.

I change my difs and t/case every 20000 kilometers / 15000 miles. Trans every 30000 kilometers. Call me overcautious but it seems to work on these trucks.

I remember hearing more 6.0 piston slap than there were front dif failures working at the stealership. Regular service is CRUCIAL to the longevity of the AWD components on these or any 4x4s.

Well said. Not to discount your buddys car but put it up against a GSXR-1000 with skilled rider and pretty much the same result but not in his favor.
