  2. Ok so I have been looking through the different sections on here and the how to section looking at various mods. I saw the thread about methanol injection. I know this is probably a newbie question, but that is the purpose of this? I have never heard of methanol injection. Also in that how to thread, your converting the washer reservoir to a methanol tank?? Isn't there a way of setting it up so you washers still work?? Thanks Guys

  4. I have another thread up about my factory hu, but i know if i go aftermarket i need adapters. is this the right adapter for the bose/door chimes? Adapter Also should i trust used, and do i need a separate harness for steering wheel controls or is this harness have that as well? Sorry if this is a repost, I did search but it was confusing as to which harness did what and which one you needed for different functions. I dont care about XM or Onstar or anything right now. just looking to be able to hook up the alpine cda-9883 i already have from an old car.
  5. I feel completely stupid asking this but need to know and couldnt find anything in search. I was not able to pick up my SS last night, so I had my parents do it for me. I got a call this morning from my mom saying that the dealer must have swapped out head units on me. She asked if the factory head unit should say bose on it. I said i didn't know, why? she said it just says cdrs on it (like her tb non ss). She also said that when the volume is lower it sounds like crap and doesnt start to sound good untill the volume is turned up. All chimes and steering wheel controls work. So now that you have the back ground here are my questions. Should the factory head unit say Bose on it? If not how do you determine if it is Bose? Do all Bose SSS's come with a 6 disk changer? What would cause the music to sound like crap at low volumes, but good at high volumes? Thanks for your help guys and sorry for the stupid questions.
  6. haha just read this thread and its hilarious. my buddy drives a 94 ram rclb rwd. never got a chance to race him in my old truck. (94 S-10 w/lt1, 700r4, shift kit, intake, shorties, full 3" true duals, e fans, etc, etc). and he is insistent that he would have walked me. he has hi flow cats super 40 cat back, volant intake, and this stupid "tuner" module from venom which just dumps full. his theory is i wouldnt have been able to keep the tires gripping so he would have walked me. keep in mind i dynod the truck at 280+ rwhp. so now that the truck isnt around he said he would walk me. I said ok when I pick up the sss we will line it up before i even mod it. his theory "well you will get me out of the hole, but i think i will come around you or at least catch up to you." should i just assume he will be the first on my kill list? lol
  7. Thanks for all the responses guys. That autoloc looks like it could be somewhat promising. I am not putting in any sort of crazy system in the back, so I am hoping there would be enough room behind the rear bench. I guess I will have to be friend someone with a tundra that will let me tear apart the back and see how they are set up. lol. it would be a very cool mod, but not sure if i could get it to work the way i want. thanks for the input

  10. I did search before I posted this actually. And it seemed like everything talked about getting new 05 setups, or after market alternatives. I guess my question should have been a little more clear. Is there any other trucks/suvs with OEM E-fans that would fit. Like I said I am trying to do this cheap and get something from the junkyard.

  13. I was looking for which CAI to get. Did some research and found a TON of info out there. The one thread I was really looking forward to reading was the dyno results. However the chart will not load. It says moved or deleted. Does anyone have the results of this test? Has anyone custom made there own intake? With stock fans, are you limited by how large of a tube you can go?
  14. Thinking of going to my local junk yard to try and find some e-fans that would fit my SS. Trying to do budget mods. What model/years would have fans that would fit my truck? Is there anything else I need to pick up while I am in there? Sorry if this is in the wrong section.
  15. Has anyone ever thought of trying to make the solid rear window in the SS a power window, similar to some new trucks on the market? Just thought it would be something new and unique. I know it would be a pretty big project but i figure if you can get all the parts from a newer truck, I am sure something could be fabbed up. What does everyone think?

  17. I am in central NY. That's what I was looking for, was stock tails to have sprayed. The ones that the truck has now seem very ricey and i think they are APC or something like that. They look really bad IMO. I will post some pics up as soon as I can, see what everyone thinks. I don't actually pick it up until Friday. It's about 3 hours from where I currently live. I appreciate it everyone. I am really looking forward to being able to complete my plans on this truck. Any one have any idea where I can get the test results for the various intakes? The graph on the previous thread would not load. Thanks again guys.
  18. Last night I put my deposit down on my first SSS. 03' black w/61kmi brand new tires, battery etc etc. $13,990. It has a few things on it from the previous guy but no performance mods or anything (Yet ). It is insanely clean in and out. Obviously it has a few scratches and what not but it is an 03. No pics yet but I will get some up ASAP. So besides just letting everyone know I have a few questions. The one thing that is wrong with it is a light is out on the HVAC Control head that I couldn't get the rinky dink used car dealer to fix. I know if you go by what the book says, you need to replace the whole head. Is there anyway of putting a knew bulb in? I have no issues taking it apart and soldering or anything like that. I have been searching for weeks know for possible mods and was looking through the CAI topics to determine the best one. Any opinions? I did find the dyno results thread but the chart was not visible it said deleted or moved. Any one have the results of that. Finally the truck has some aftermarket tales on it and I would rather have stockers or tinted stock tails. Briefly looked through the for sale section, but does anyone have any they would want to sell or trade? Thanks for any advise, and let the modding begin
  19. I am still a newbie on the SSSs and have minimal experience with tuning. I am very interested in tuning these trucks. I have been poking around and searching through the forums and have seen alot of people recomend custom tunes both for power and effieceny. I did some research a while back on EFI Live for tuning Duramax diesel engines and it seemed pretty user friendly. Obviously I am not talking about building complete one off tunes, I am no where near experienced enough to be doing that. One of the things that I liked when looking in the Duramax forums, was that they had a library of tunes that could download and demo on your truck. The other thing that I like regarding EFI Live was being able to have a couple of tunes on a laptop, one for performance, one for effieciency. So naturally my curiosity has grown on tuning these engines. 1. Which tuning program would you recomend for a new tuner, who wants to tweak mild things at a time to start? 2. Is there any source to download generic tunes as described above? 3. When people on this forum are discussing having someone build a custom tune, are you talking about downloading a tune to your current PCM or sending your PCM to a tuner? 4. Is it possible to have a couple tunes on hand for performance/effiecency, kind of like a power programmer? I will probably have for more questions to follow, but I will address them after.   20. yeah right out of the box i wouldnt be looking to make a crazy amount of power. prolly just some bolt ons, and maybe and maybe mess with EFI Live some. It will still be my daily driver to start with. What kind of power can the stock diff and trans handle? The one I am looking at has 60k on the clock so now im nervous. The 6.0 is basically an iron verzion of the aluminum ls2 correct? I have also seen a couple people swap the manifold for a TB SS, and real advantage out of this? I really appreciate all the help you guys are giving me. I have been on alot of forums where people could care less if you need some advise. I just like to have a good foundation of what it can handle before I buy a vehicle.

  22. Thanks for the replies. I forgot about the I-Shaft and Cluster. Front what I remember that is a fairly common problem on most GM trucks. What kind of issues are their with the transmission and front diff? I am not familier with them and I will admit that i know nothing about the 4l65e. I was hoping it was a 4l80e just because I am familiar with them and have worked on them. Thanks for the help.
  23. Hi everyone. Im looking at knew trucks and the SS is one I am definatley looking at. I found a nice 03 SS with 60k on it for $14k. I am not to familiar with these trucks, so I was wondering if anyone had any advise or things to look for when buying. I have built a few trucks before (94 S-10 w/ LT1 350), but like I said don't know much about these. I was looking originally at a 3/4T Duramax Diesel, because i know a little more about them then the gassers. I have also had experience with WVO systems, and making bio-diesel. What kind of mileage is average for the AWD? I know the 6.0L is supposed to be a very reliable easily buildable engine, but is there a common problem I should be aware of with the engine? Any common problems with the truck in general? What transmission is in the SS? (i.e 4l80E?) Does an 03 with 60K for $14k sound like a good deal? (It is mint, and all stock) Anything else I need to know before buying? And on a totally different topic, anyone tried hyrdo-boosting a 6.0L? Thanks for your help everyone.
